That is to the loyal fans.
That went horribly wrong with the Rapid thread...
What happened ?
The dev gave a few discounts to a select bunch of people who participated in the thread. Those who weren't picked were obviously upset. I was one of the lucky ones.

The synth is still overpriced but that's another subject.

Exactly. I was one of those with early bird discount too but I rejected because it's just unfair. That's what most others also thought. So parawave lost some potential customers because the synth is overpriced and only some got a discount.

99,-EUR is my absolute maximal price for a software synth. Few people I know bought never a softsynth, they wait until a crack is out.

not quite there but a little too close for comfort Taurus, bragging about using cracks is not permitted...please be mindful of that okay? Thank you :)
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Oh sorry, I don't know that this word is on blacklist. Thank you for warning me. What's with the word "trump"? :D

Really interested to see how Avenger compares with Rapid! A lot of VST innovation coming out of Germany these days.

Post

Despite several positive comments by Beta testers about Avenger's CPU usage, I remain a bit worried when watching the CPU meter in the demo videos. Given that most statements so far in this regard seem either rather vague or subjective (CPU power might differ greatly from my machine), I have a small request. Could anyone with access to Avenger please create a simple patch with both Avenger and a comparable, already available synth like e.g. Massive, U-He Zebra or Parawave RAPID (Demo is fine), play identical notes with both synths and check how CPU usage (measured by DAW or system, not the synth's built-in CPU meter) compares? That would give us a more objective picture.
For example, the standard patch I use for synth performance testing is:
- 2 oscillators per voice, no modulation
- 7 voice unison for all oscillators
- 24db (4-pole) lowpass filter
- play and hold 8 notes
Thank you very much!

I would welcome a comparison of Avenger and Rapid and ...

Will Avenger be only available from Vengeance directly or will it be sold by other resellers (JRRShop, Audio Deluxe etc)? I suppose the former.

Anyway, I'm really excited about the release. It'll keep me busy for quite some time. And in case the devs don't know what to add: an Alchemy-like additive source with resynthesis and/or granular synthesis would go nicely with the great modulation possibilities ;-)

The synth is still overpriced but that's another subject.
I used to live for the day when I could afford another hardware synth, each costing £500 - £1,000 each.

I could never afford a new DX7, and had to wait to buy the expander cut down black box version.

Same for the Roland D50.

Now - for 199 - I'm in heaven.

But regardless of price, it's the sound I like that counts the most.

Some synths immediately sound great to my ear and go on staying that way, which makes the price far less relevant.

A hundred dollars is neither here nor there if a synth is likely to be one I'll be using in 1 or 2 years time.

I don't find it economical to buy a few $100 synths, only to find a year or so later that I don't really use them (monark, massive, and more)

I find better value these days in getting a keeper (Dune 2, Omnisphere, maybe Spire).

I know we'll probably have different synth tastes, but somehow having a collection of 12+ synths means nothing any more.

Is/or will there be a manual pdf at release?

There is no question that next to what we spent on synths 40 years ago, $200 is nothing. Believe me, I know. The cheapest duophonic synth I ever bought still cost me $600. I won't even tell you what I spent on my CS.

But that's the problem. Soft synths have lowered the bar on price but raised the bar on quality. There is no way I'd rather spend $6,900 (new in 1976) for a CS 80 over spending even $300 for a top of the line soft synth. Hell, even Omnisphere at $500 cost me less than my duophonic synth. Rapid simply doesn't measure up to the top of the line synths or other synths in its price range. For just $100 more, I'll take Falcon all day long and for even less money, I'll take Avenger when it comes out.

So it's not a question of what hardware synths used to cost. It's a question of what you can get a quality soft synth for. In that respect, there are better options that either cost less or not much more.
