Once in a while I see computer generated animation used to advertise plugins and Kontakt libraries. I really wonder what is the use of this? Do people actually bought a plugin because of a cgi video ad with techno music in the background?

Video walk through and tutorial makes sens, but 15-30 seconds cgi clip showcasing parts of the GUI of a plugin doesn't make much sens to me. Or I'm getting old.

What are your thoughts on this? Does it catch the attention of potential buyer? Did you ever got interested in a plugin because of this type of ad?

id say a 15-30 second teaser is pretty good to get people to look for more information. a full blown walk through/tutorial isnt appropriate for a lot of uses. a commercial isnt an orientation. people dont buy cars based on 30 second commercials...but they certainly will go to a dealer and check them out based on them.

the teaser is just there to get you to go to the website and look at the videos and listen to the audio clips and whatnot. makes perfect sense to me.

and yes...i have gone to check out plenty of plugins based off teaser videos. a lot of the time...if it wasnt for the teaser video...i wouldnt have known about it for months.

Thank you for sharing your point of view. It really helps me understand this way of making things known.

I enjoy commercials/teasers with high production value if they are informative and REVEALING, not just bling and whizz-bang for the sake of looking flashy.

I like the dramatization ones, that show an "engineer" and a "musician" in the studio working on stuff with the plugins (izotope nectar is the first to come to mind). It's corny as hell, sure, but tends to highlight the practical applications as opposed to just spamming us with feature lists and buzzwords and sexy 3d-rendered gui shots that show the plugin as a hypothetical rackmount unit. Plus, there's usually gear porn in the backgrounds, which tickles some part of my subconscious. Plus, this method isn't as boring/technical as the actual product walkthroughs.

Then I see stuff like the video for Output REV when that came out, and it's like... okay, this is cool, but gimmicky and too artsy. I get that it's backwards, can I see some screenshots or something?

Sometimes I see commercials on TV that seem to have nothing to do with the product. Do they catch the attention of potential buyer? I suppose they must do, since people buy the product.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

Yeah but sometime in marketing there are threads that people follow because everyone's doing it. It doesn't mean that it actually make money. Personally, just a 3d rendering with big edm music doesn't work for me but I guess it works for someone. Or it's just a thread that companies follows blindly.
