I like the crisp wavetable sounds I've heard in the video demos, but I really hate that GUI.
Also I would be wary about paying that much for a product from a dev with no provenance. Who are they? Where have they worked in the past?

I have worked with these guys a little bit and can tell you they are very passionate about their product and plan to support it for a long time with expansions and updates. And as Mirko mentioned above he has a great track record in the industry so these are not a bunch of rookies here - just a new branded company.knowix wrote: I like the crisp wavetable sounds I've heard in the video demos, but I really hate that GUI.

As for the GUI I am seeing a lot of comments on people not liking it - however the GUI is broken down in 2 parts for me:
LOOK
FUNCTIONALITY
While I think the look is what is rubbing people the wrong way (although to me it does not look bad - just looks like an older version of Alchemy) - the more important functionality is really where it excels. Possibly one of the best GUI for functionalities I have ever used actually. Just simple things like being able to quickly control the bass & treble per oscillator/multisample, prev/next selectors for wavetables/samples, and being able to see the 3 parts on screen at once with all controls is huge for quickly creating sounds. As you use the synth for a while - more and more of these little things become more apparent. As you discover these things it also becomes a bit more easy to discover why it is priced how it is. If someone is semi-serious about their music production, isn't it more worth while to spend a few extra $$ for a greatly improved workflow experience?

There definitely was some professionals involving into this project for ending up with erginomics like this!loachm wrote:...if some poeple are serious about their product, shouldn't they have hired a professional GUI designer?

I think what people don't like about the GUI is the color but as far as functionality, it's excellent. It's one of the easiest "complex" synths to program that I own. Everything is right there, intuitive and easy to access. The mod section especially is a joy to work with.

...look, I'm sorry about having written this, as I don't have any agenda against this synth or its developers. And I know how hard development work is - especially for a small or very small team. I don't mean to step on anyone's toes, but there is no way that someone has been involved in this, who has an education in this field and is creating graphics for a living. As this is a complex synth, which takes a lot of time to develop, I suspect its creators were able to come up with the layout themselves. It also uses some ergonomics standards, a lot of people are probably aware of (at least subconsciously) and I guess, they like Massive, too. But when I have a look at how the graphics have been executed (what and how things have been done), I can estimate what level of expertise has been involved. Anyway, nothing what I critise will make the instrument sound bad (and that's the most important thing) and I know what a huge undertaking it is to create such a complex synth. So, I wish them all the best and that their synth will be a success...nordickvr wrote:There definitely was some professionals involving into this project for ending up with erginomics like this!loachm wrote:...if some poeple are serious about their product, shouldn't they have hired a professional GUI designer?

I guess everyone who dislikes the GUI is expecting something like "The Legend" (another skeuromorphic 3D prerender?) and especially dislikes the color orange? Unfortunately I can't improve things if people are not ready to post a somehow more constructive critic. DETAILS! So what do you dislike? Is it the white/orange theme, or is it the pixel-perfect bitmap graphic? Or is it the layout, what is it? I'm willing to improve things, but can't without details. I somehow think it's the orange color. Studies showed that males (apparently 95% of synthesizer users) tend to like the color blue. Yes. Should have chosen blue : Dknowix wrote:I like the crisp wavetable sounds I've heard in the video demos, but I really hate that GUI.
As announced previously, eventually RAPID will get an alternative skin possibility. A combination of vector/pixel/custom theme thingy, with settable colors.

Have you worked 24:7 ? 250 is a huge number for this short amount of time!

I did put an extensive amount of time into it. I also have been programming synths for almost 40 years so the learning curve was about an hour. I could make an entire soundbank alone of just split patches. Feel like I've just scratched the surface on this one (My Falcon sound library is over 600 patches and took me about 3 months) but it's a start.parawave wrote:I guess everyone who dislikes the GUI is expecting something like "The Legend" (another skeuromorphic 3D prerender?) and especially dislikes the color orange? For me the orange/brown/white thing is just why I like it so much .parawave wrote:I guess everyone who dislikes the GUI is expecting something like "The Legend" (another skeuromorphic 3D prerender?) and especially dislikes the color orange? I despise al those dark blue/black GUI's of nowadays.
I grew up in the 70's and it's a bit reminiscent of that.
('member the 70's?
Gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling

I grew up in the 60s but I'm curious, just what is it about this color that reminds you of the 70s aside from some of the ugly tie died shirts I used to own?zxant wrote:For me the orange/brown/white thing is just why I like it so much .parawave wrote:I guess everyone who dislikes the GUI is expecting something like "The Legend" (another skeuromorphic 3D prerender?) and especially dislikes the color orange?
