This is the first video in a two part series I'm doing. I know a lot of you kvr'ers upload to youtube.

You may not know that Youtube automatically compresses all audio, so loud videos are dialed back to quieter levels. The first day or two your uploaded video is untouched. The audio is the same as when you uploaded it. But after a day or two the audio is compressed/replaced by Youtube (cheeky!). This is an experiment where I upload the same song twice: One version will be mastered. The other version will be a normal (quieter) dynamic mix. After youtube compression kicks in, will the normal mix end up the same volume as the mastered mix? Will the normal mix sound better than my mastering (and subsequent youtube compression) efforts? We get answers! Eventually. We have to wait until the compression kicks in. Then compare both versions. Suspense...

This is a teaser...I have to upload the other video soon but it's Turkey hand shake time so the next one will be up soon. Ish.

"Dialed back to quieter levels" yes, as can be read e.g. here

but that's called normalisation, not compression, different things.

Thanks for the link. Speaking of terminology, I called it noise war two times in s row. When I finally said "loudness war" at the end you can see the victory in my eyes. 3rd time lucky.
