Great for piano. Not come across anything else quite like it, surprised it doesn't seem to get talked about as much.
Phoenix is absolutely awesome. If you set it right you can't notice it. The GUI is really efficient and a pleasure to work with. The preset system, one of the best around. To be honest, I can't see anything bad about this reverb.
On the other hand, I've tried R2 two times. Michael Carnes was kind enough to renew my demo but so far, it is not my cup of tea. The Lexicon reverbs, designed by him too, are better at this kind of sound.

And, if you love delays, you have to take a look at Excalibur. It's brilliant and the sound is in the same vein as Phoenix.

Yes I have Excalibur - love the sound but it's taking me a while to understand the interface. A tutorial would be useful. Also it should come with a set of basic templates to get certain types of effect setup quickly.

Loving Phoenixverb, definitely on my to buy list (although a sale would be good). Not sure about R2 - I think VVV works better for me for that sort of more heavily modulated sound.

The preset system is clever when it works but I find some hosts I have to fight the host to get it to accept keyboard entry, eg in Studio One only the up/down arrows work, the left/right ones just do something to the S1 interface. In Tracktion if you haven't moused on the interface it also steals the keyboard and you end up with a messed up project. Wish I could turn off keyboard shortcuts in my hosts as I never use them and they always get in the way.

To learn it, I found useful to start with only one delay line and try everything possible from there.

I also prefer VVV without any doubt.

I love Phoenix verb, especially after the big GUI Overhaul and getting to grips with the preset system. It sounds incredible and has that sought after 'blending' with the source.

I tend to use Phoenix more and more in the mix but VRoom, Shimmer and Ubermod are huge fun for sound design.

I love Spring reverb too and tend to reach for impulses for that. I just picked up PSP Springbox too which I'm looking forward to tinkering with.

But yeah Phoenix is probably hard to beat in terms of quality :)

Cheers

I once thought I had mono for an entire year. It turned out I was just really bored...

I've been tracking Phoenixverb + R2 and they usually do a 30% off as a summer (June-ish) / Christmas sale. Is it Black Friday yet?

I can sell you the Phoenix/R2 Stereo Bundle.
Make me a decent offer.

Thanks but at the moment it's only Phoenix I'm really interested in.

I love how you can make pretty big spaces with this but they still don't crowd out the instrument:

Both PhoenixVerb and R2 have been my go-to reverbs since they were in their early beta versions. My opinion is having both is crucial for covering 99% of ground while mixing. I can cover the other 1% with the MPX from Lexicon. Excalibur is also amazing and despite the fact that many people find it difficult to understand I think it's pretty easy to use... And very powerful!

OK after much testing of the demo this weekend I was wrong to dismiss the R2 so quickly, it has grown on me and can create some really emotional spaces. It's more subtle than Valhalla and less algos/flexibility but also sweeter and more refined. Really like the chamber as well.

Black Friday NFR for $49 right now.

How's the CPU usage with this one, compared to Valhallas or Blackhole?

Post

quite minimal

from memory, is a bit less than Valhalla, but around the same... can use many instances no problem.

On the same level with the ones I listed or more?

And compared to Pro-R?

Would be interested in hearing your thoughts, comparing it to Acon Digital Verberate! They're offered at basically the same price during the current sale. I already demoed Phoenixverb a while ago, but went for the Relab LX480 at that time. Now, i'm looking for an "invisible" reverb to compliment the LX480. Mainly to give synths and samples a realistic space in the mix. Fancy, shiny (obvious) sound design reverb is covered by the LX480.

Thanks!
