After hearing Miranda by Slowdive, the whole concept of "oblivion" has been redefined to me. Anyone care to expand?

Most film scores today.
Producer: "In this scene, we want some blaring epic epic horns. Braamm, bruumm! Like in that movie Inception! So our numb and emotionaly devoid audience feel like it's the end of the world and everyone is going to die and our white male hero is the last hope!!"
Composer: I can do that.
Producer: Good! Now, in the next scene... some CGI-people die, so we want some sad sad heart-tugging strings, so our numb and emotionally devoid audience understands that this is a sad sad scene! Crying and all that! You know? Boohoo!
Composer: I can do that.

I wonder is it the age or what, but these are for me unrelatable in that "depressing" way. Usually it comes less from the lyrics to me (or if it does, the lyrics are rather very abstract). Though will include these in my playlists, thanks.whyterabbyt wrote:
Here's a depressing song where the lyrics also play their part. Wouldn't exactly call this poetry!

the "epic" music people use as a soundtrack to videos of their "adventurous activities".Aryaroman wrote:Most film scores today.
..Neale Donald Walsch writes, “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” what jimi said.
oh god, not another eight bars. and, you know, there will be eight of them.

Heard some good things about Coil but haven't managed to give a good listen to it. Any suggestions?sfxsound3 wrote:coil
Yup, I love Radiohead. Personally, "Reckoner" probably being my favorite. Not really sure if it's one of their most depressing songs, but still it's quite depressing for me.AnX wrote:Radiohead
Nice, reminds me a bit of 2muchachos. Though 2muchachos isn't quite as old, but still I love how they mix up folk like this. This song is in russian though. "Up On A Gray Wolf". innocent sort of lyrics about wolf taking her away from dreams, or so I've understood based on my russian knowledge. Might err heavily here.fluffy_little_something wrote:From 1994...

Madredeus have made several such songs, I never really know if they touch me in a positive or negative way, but they do touch me a lot...Functional wrote:Nice, reminds me a bit of 2muchachos. Never heard of that Russian band, but indeed, it sounds melancholic as well, I think it is also part of the Russian mentality, although maybe not as much as of the Portuguese one.

I find music unrelated to mental afflictions.
There are many words that can be used to describe the opposite of "uplifting"; "depressing" isn't one of them.

I don't watch many documentaries, but when I have occasionally, they mostly sound new age. Sometimes they might overdo the epic-part tho, agreed.Functional wrote:You did forget the documentaries.Aryaroman wrote:Most film scores today.
