Since there has been lots of talk about classic Prog bands. I have to bring this group into KVR. They are my Favorite Band of all time (narrowly beating out the Beatles and XTC). I have been a fan since the early years and it is the one Progressive group that I have liked through every incarnation. My favorite album being Discipline. If I could play guitar like Fripp or Belew my dreams would come true. (I will never attain that tho, started too late in life). I have really liked the last couple of recordings that they have done especially The Power to Believe ( (The Power to Believe II and Dangerous Curves are my favorites from this one)

What are your fave King Crimson cds?

Discipline is one kickass record!
Also liked three of a perfect pair.

And yeah well, IMO their lineup with Fripp, Belew, Levin and Bruford was the best (not meant to slag Trey Gunn off, he's a great player too).

I always have some kind of story and I'll make this one short. I love King Crimson too. I was friends with Pat Mastellato in LA who used to play for Mister Mister (but also played with XTC). Anyway, when he told me he got the gig with Crimson I was shocked. Then I said "But what about Bruford?" and he said "Oh, yeah he's playing too?". I was even more surprised. Then he said they had two stick players and I thought he was completely pulling my leg. But, then Thrak came out and sure enough... two trios! Bizarre. I got to seem them play and it was really interesting. I must admit I haven't been following what they've done since. Perhaps I should. It's a four piece now right?

Anyway, favorite albums were:

Court of the Crimson King
Starless
Larks Tongues

He does have a fantastic voice. Moonchild is one of my favourites of theirs - esp the "plinky" bits. It even inspired several patches I made for EVE.

I definitely love Disciple. One of my fav. I also have three of a perfect and beat from the same era but I only like certain tunes on them.

One of my three favorite bands (with Genesis and Pink Floyd). Love all their lineups

... and Trey Gunn is one of my all time favorite musicians period as his solo stuff is mind bogglingly good

. Loved their last album and tour, which I had the pleasure of seeing.

Favorite album .. tough to say .. "In the court of the Crimson King", "Discipline", "Larks Tongue in Aspic", "The Power to Believe" .. they are all different and all fabulous

I used to have an old "In the Court Of Crimson King" vinyl, but had no idea where it's gone. So a couple of years ago I bought the CD, bundled with "Islands"

What the shit is that?

Not King Crimson any more.

I can't say that I fancy too much the later Fripp work

Definitely a huge KC fan here as well, seriously loving both the older stuff ("Red" probably being my favorite from then) and the newer (pretty much all of it)....and honestly (I know this sounds like blasphemy to some) I think I enjoy the newer stuff just a bit more.

I have this bizarre personal issue (time to talk to my shrink...

) of wishing I could play like a mutant combination of both Fripp and Tony Levin all at once (maybe I'll be able to combine the two and start doing Fripp-ish soundscapes with my new Chapman Stick coming in next week...

)

....hey, I've at least got the Levin "hair style" right.

Considering the guy is pushing 60, I'd be very lucky if I'm in 1/4 as good shape as he is when I reach his age (or have 1/1,000,000 of his talent)...!

I tend to agree. There was a certain magic about the "Lake era" Crimson that I missed in later editions.

I like Islands, Red, CotCK, Larks, Lizard, some of the newer Projekcts stuff... don't think I've heard a KC album I didn't enjoy some of right away, and almost all of after a few listenings.

Man, I bought that one on vinyl. Like the first track, second was ok too; rest was crap: sold it or gave it away. Then when I started buying CDs I thought "Ok, it couldn't have been as bad as I remember" and bought it on CD. Sold it or gave it away again.

Saw KC in mid 90s with the double quartet. Bloody unbelievable. Unfortunately, I don't think they've progressed since then. Saw them 2 years or so ago, and it was very ho-hum.

And apart from Trey Gunn they all had a bald spot. Note to self: don't buy seats in the balcony for groups you grew up with.
