Attack of the 75-Dollar DAW!

Renoise is totally sweet by the way. It's the DAW I've settled on, though I realize it may not be for everyone. It's got a lot of clever things going on, and just feels like a tight all around package.

I remember when I saw Piano roll first time. That was in FL Studio 4 and after years of tracking my impression of Piano roll was so bad, I couldn't image how some can do music in piano roll so slow and unintuitive

LOL, I was thinking the same way. I also remember when I started using ReBirth, then Music2000 on Sony Playstation One which actually had Piano Roll. My first version was Fruity Loops 3 which I used as a drum machine and creating some loops, then exporting them as .wav and importing them in Sound Forge and processing them.
The first thing which I ever sampled was a kickdrum from "Take the power back" by RATM, the most funny part is that I still have that sample which I named "Rage"....FLS 12 nowadays and that kick is still in my Kickdrum folder, got carried through several hdd's

should count a MUX Modular into the price of Renoise



otherwise the layering would/will be heavily PITA it needs only a nice front-end with couple of racks and macro controls ... (tried other modular VST wrappers too, but MUX is far the easiest if u need outer macro controlling, check the video, it also supports multi-out so the diff. VSTi can be fxed separately )

so an AL like intrument device definitely missing from Renoise, MUX can solve it nicely

It's probably just me, but everytime i see Renoise, i wonder how someone can work with that GUI. Absolutely horrible for me. Each to his like!

I wish more DAW's could have a tracker interface options, I find that more easy to work with than the "regular" looking DAW interface

IMO u can't still see the biggest advantages of Renoise, it supports the phrase based (triggered, played from any point or backward, can be resampled etc.) workflow

and because there is a phenomenal phrase variation based music prototyping tool on the market ... RapidComposer ... I'm also using Reaper (with ReWire) because it needs for audio materials, ok the three toghether are definitely not 75-dollar, but they can give fun and enjoyable workflow

ps. forgot to mention, phrases can be triggered realtime too with offset

so it's a very unique tool, and workflow with it can't be accomplished with traditionally piano-roll based DAWs
