I really  enjoy  using the U-he and discoDSP
linux ported plugins, and I hope sales reward their
coding efforts nicely.

Since there were nice sales/coupons in play for
Diva's birthday, and Black Friday, I posted brief announcements
at http://www.linuxmusicians.com

They have no marketplace subforum, so I posted
in the plugins forum, where the same products have been
discussed several times.

Only to notice later that they were deleted.
So I posted my disgust, much too politely, methinks,
in the appropriate forum.

If anyone wants to share their opinion at the link,
have at it. Curious to see what the response might be.
I sure hope George, Urs, and Paul Davis @ Mixbus
don't get wind of how a major linux website
supports their efforts, and in Paul's case, life's work.

http://www.sadsack$fanboi.gone is my vote to rename their website.
Any better choices? They need options to consider.
linuxmusicians they are not... :ud:

Here's a better option for you consider:

Using linux instead of a real OS? Musician you are not...

This might come as late-breaking news, but :

Code: Select all

Musician != operating_system
I was a musician before I saw a computer. I'll still be one if all the computers in the world disappear.

Best,

One could also think that musician != plugin choices

but perhaps parallels like this are far too complicated for your usual kvrian to draw.

Done. We'll see what happens next. I kept my cool, no threats or slagging, just pointed out that neither the posting guidelines or the site's mission statement could be used to reject your post. I also had a word to add regarding what I think re: denying yourself effective tools for the job.

Meanwhile I'm still stuck trying to decide which u-he plugin gets my coupon love today. :help:

Best,

Well I think a large part of the linux community will always
be anti-commercial. FSF and all... It was like that 20 years
ago, no surprise if it hasn't changed much today.

IMO this is one off the biggest hurdles the OS faces, the next
biggest being the exact reverse of that with many commercial
interests being anti-linux.

Don't worry, MS and/or Apple will piss people off enough at some
point that they will begin to break from them. Look at Steam,
a landmark situation already occurring there. Thanks mostly
to their frustration with MS.

Sir, I commend you on your originality. Never in all my years have I seen someone on a forum suggest such a thing and I am sure it will bring you the attention you seek.

On the Linuxmusicians thing, it's a community that keeps on forgetting that it's free as in speech not free as in beer.

@ .jon: how many times have bootable linux rescue cd/dvd/usbstick/external drives
been used to save a windows installation, compared to the number
of times a windows -anything- has been used to rescue
a linux installation? Oh wait, that might be a strawman type of question.
A windows -anything- would just offer to format the drive, or start installing
itself while you weren't looking...the stuff a realOS is made of these days.

I'm glad .jon loves his many windows options (they are really wonderful)
but I am also glad I am not limited to only them.
Cheers

2017 will be the year of the linux desktop!

:hihi:

Post

If that's true, I'm glad I got November's Linux Magazine Issue #192,
since it has a searchable dvd, with all the previous 191 issues as PDF's,
and I'm going to need all those tutorials to figure out
what a desktop really is...maybe figure out that
wheely looking thing on top of the mouse...

Gee, 192 issues, and we still haven't reached 'the year'

The Linux community have always been a bunch of elitist snobs.
Sadly their own user base are one of the main reasons that people are turned off of Linux.
My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Unify = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

Hive is pretty wonderfull, but I think Zebra will fill more of your
tracks with things you like, as per PM. I remember even hearing
a great Clarinet and English Horn while fighting my way through
the thousands of sounds, not that those particular sounds
will be featured in a U-he advertisement/video.

Lot's of fine people over at LinuxMusicians, if there were not,
I would have had no motive to mention
such fine products at such fine sale prices.
Thanks for pointing out their own website rules to them.
Cheers

The users never bothered me, but the irony is how bloated and inefficient linux distros are getting. The prerequisites to install anything are getting much longer and more tangential. Perhaps this is due to the lack of teamwork these days.

I still use MixBus on debian, even in a VM but it's getting to be a hassle to install. Even with Audio Optimised distros I'm having to edit and compile more and more.

It is a pity that the 3-tier structure (community/free, non-commercial, commercial) to support linux is so vehemently opposed. It would advance linux, in terms of usage as well as development.

I'll get off my Sunday Morning Soapbox now.
I miss MindPrint. My TRIO needs a big brother.

I think the elitism is eroding, as more good people are drawn in
by new quality music software becoming available,
and some as escapees from corporate over-reach like the win-10 takeover attempts.

The devs who have made linux ports available all seem to
be as cheerful as they are laden with coding genious.
Maybe it's the quality of the beer in Berlin
(if not the quantity :hihi: ) that keeps them as
good role models in their various forums.
