Hi, I am using Reaper on a win10 machine and have imported a video and tapped along to it so that there is a midi clip with one note every 4 beats. I would now like to set the tempo so that each note aligns with the first beat of a 4/4 bar. I have tried a number of things based off the net but with no success. How would I go about this? Are there any global parameters that need setting first? I do not want to change the playrate I want to set the grid lines to align with the music accompanying the video
Thanks, woggle

thanks but doesn't seem to do what I want. (eg one of the instructions in tempo mapping using SWS doubles the rate of the midi file) I am also not keen to use adhoc extensions that may or may not work in the future.
Digital Perfomer has an easy method and I may end up buying that as I am doing more work that requires this sort of manipulation

Not sure why you don't want to change playrate - I think that is how everything is done in realtime in Reaper - audio and midi.

But I think you can change playrate, and render a new clip from that if you want. Then this new clip has playrate 1.0000.

I ended up setting tempo using the tap function. That will do this time but is clearly inadequate as a proper solution. I've used reaper for a very long time and if anything it has become harder to use as more and more functionality gets bolted on without any coherent or sophisticated design to bind the functionality together.

There are good and bad sides to every approach.

I thought you could set playrate to 0.25 for that clip, and rightclick and render to new track/clip or whatever.
Then remove the old clip, or mute it - done.

Everything you import into Reaper is just put there as it is, and all conversion is handled realtime. The bad side of this if you have a clip you import in 44k to a project in 48k, this will use realtime stretch algos to do that sample rate conversion which influence resulting quality much more than high quality SRC.

So I abandoned Reaper almost three years ago now. The basic approach does not fit me that well.
But stunning daw, I cannot say anything else - a matter of taste what you prefer.

I have got a solution using

which works perfectly.
