Before release: Everyone wants a strict analog emulation.

After release: Everyone complains that it's a strict analog emulation, but asks for feature X, Y, and Z which the original didn't have.

Mogular wrote:I'm missing something here with glide. Is there any way to get The Legend to only glide when notes are played legato?
I have played with the retrig switches but a glide is always audible whether the notes are played legato or staccato.
Simply set the Glide knob to zero (on the front panel in the top left corner).

I think Mogular means something else. He's talking about glide only working on legato played notes, instead of all the time (which is how it works on Mini by default). So, setting glide time to zero is kinda against the point here, no? He WANTS to have some glide applied, but only when he plays legato...
Yep that's exactly what I am talking about. When notes are staccato there is no glide, when they are legato then we get the glide. I could do it with automation but it's not really very playable.

I think this has much to do with velocity :o sensitivity and note aftertouch. I understand completely what he means as Diva has this sort of control behaviour as well as my Yamaha Motif Es on the moog esque bass and lead settings. Arturia Minimogue as well as Minimoog VA luxus has this response... I am actually astonised to read that the Legend did not have this already implemented as at synth release date.

Nope... having never owned a moog before and listing to millions of fusion funky disco tracks that feature the mini I thought that aftertouch and velocity sensitivity was part of the feel and playability of a pure minimoog.... seems I was deluded lol!!!

They normally have seasonal sales, but as Legend hasnt been out long, i'd be surprised it that was in the sale.

It does have a life of its own, mainly due to the Legato/Glide. In certain settings, when the filter decay/release are somewhat longer, there is also an envelope buildup effect. This results in a change of timbre when playing several notes quickly in a row, the notes becomes somewhat brighter. So overall it's quite dynamic :)

Good review for The Legend in Computer Music issue CM238

They give it a 9/10 rating and say: "A MiniMoog with bells on. The Legend is a stunning emulation of the most important synth ever made, with a totally legit sound and numerous handy extras"

Post

Beat Mag also rate TheLegend high. They place it over Monark.

How's anything under a 10/10 justifiable? I demoed it and I can't imagine sounding any better.

When I buy a Minimoog soundbank I do not want to see pads. I have other synths for pads. Minimoog is for basses and leads. This is an example of why it is good to have less extra features. I will set the DAW to transform all Note velocity values to 127 and filter out aftertouch.

To be fair, the new Moog Model D reissues have filter aftertouch, etc.
