Expansion, extension, whatever you call them, you actually confirm my statement when you say that extensions do not only contain presets (which are indeed optional and I don't care about them as I can make them myself as well as long as I have all the building blocks available), but also wavetables/multisamples and drum samples (i.e. stuff I can't make myself, those are the building blocks presets are made from and which in my view should be free of charge as they are part of the synth itself).parawave wrote:That's not true. All planned future updates are free updates. Including the wavetable/sample import, which is already in the planning phase. It's just that the Mac version has a higher priority atm, so the implementation will start after the release with version 1.1.fluffy_little_something wrote:Not so sure I like their expansion approach, where one has to pay for new sound building blocks (I am not speaking of presets made from those building blocks, those would be optional). Reminds me a bit of Tone2, unfortunately.
The extensions on the other hand are normal sound libraries, comparable to known synths soundset. It's just another name, because the "XT Electronic Energy" for example includes not only new presets, but also new wavetables/multisamples and drum samples.
I just don't like that follow-up sales strategy, which is also why I won't buy Tone2 synths. 51.24 euros for one extension, that's a whole lot...

Then don't buy it. With multisample/sample/wavetable import support, this will be tackled for a large portion, won't it?? It is not that they will add FX, filters, etc, thru expansions/extensions...fluffy_little_something wrote:Expansion, extension, whatever you call them, you actually confirm my statement when you say that extensions do not only contain presets (which are indeed optional and I don't care about them as I can make them myself as well as long as I have all the building blocks available), but also wavetables/multisamples and drum samples (i.e. stuff I can't make myself, those are the building blocks presets are made from and which in my view should be free of charge as they are part of the synth itself).parawave wrote:That's not true. The expansions will contain wavetables used in the presets, but once custom made can be imported, i don't see a problem, since huge amounts are online for free.

Well, not everyone wants to mess with custom wavetables.exmatproton wrote:With multisample/sample/wavetable import support, this will be tackled for a large portion, won't it?? It is not that they will add FX, filters, etc, thru expansions/extensions...

Never mind, it didn't install anyway because my AV wouldn't let it due to suspicious behavior, missing digital signature and what not...

Ok, then i don't get your point. You're kinda saying that you want all wavetables/presets in advance. Even those which aren't made at this point. Which seems weird to me.fluffy_little_something wrote:Well, not everyone wants to mess with custom wavetables.exmatproton wrote:With multisample/sample/wavetable import support, this will be tackled for a large portion, won't it?? In loads of other synths, expansions like this (made for people like you, who don't want to make and mess with custom wt's), are being sold as seperate packages. You are referring to Tone2's history, of making certain building blocks (skins for instance) available thru expansions (which is awefull, i agree). But i don't see any problem here when they add the possibilty to import own stuff. It is only fair to pay for extra content (other then synth upgrades, like functionality or skins), like wt's and multisamples.

No offense taken. Yes, I am very outspoken and I do complain about things. But this guy has me beat by a mile. He complains about every little thing and quite honestly, it's getting tiresome.nordickvr wrote:Finally found serious competitor?wagtunes wrote:...Don't waste your time with him. Hehe, no, I don't want non-existing stuff in advanceexmatproton wrote:Ok, then i don't get your point. You're kinda saying that you want all wavetables/presets in advance. Even those which aren't made at this point. Which seems weird to me.

However, the price of 50+ euros per extension seems very high to me. It seems a bit like the printer and ink approach

About price...yes, sorry but i hope the OSX version comes before the price raise up again.
I'm interested in this plug-in too but especially because of the GUI and maybe too much overlap i want to try it really for a few days before buying.
I do like some of the features on paper.

Just testing the demo and have a little question I just cant solve. And looking in the "user guide".......(by the way, for that prize....).....
I am thinking of using it (at least partly) as "workstation" like sample tank, kontakt etc.. so for let it play differnt midi tracks with one instance. I have found out I can change the midi channel in voicing, fine.
But for this use I would need the possibility to load ANOTHER preset into layer 2 (in the demo, later on of course into the other layers too) and could not figure that out. I can copy the layers, nice, but if I change the preset, puff...., all loaded layers (obviously) gone. Any way to do this ? Otherwise a really needed request from me cause I wont have the pc capabilities to load Rapid on dozens of tracks and would help on the other hand to keep things simple.
And thats what makes the synth interesting for me (though it is out of my normally price range for a single synth): it really IS easy to use and sounds (as far as I can judge from the demo) good so very nice for quick sketching.
Kind regards,
Richard

Yes, this is a valid and good request, but let me explain a problematic thing. If you save a preset, you save all 8 layers. Now if you theoretically want to load that presets, let's say into layer 3, you first have to select a preset file and then additionally select the layer to import. That would require some sort of dialog. In my opinion a bit unnecessary, because there is already an alternative way. What I personally do is this:tatanka wrote:But for this use I would need the possibility to load ANOTHER preset into layer 2 (in the demo, later on of course into the other layers too) and could not figure that out.
Just open two Rapid instances, one to build your new patch, and one to quickly browse/preview files.
The layer copy/paste works between different plugin instances! This is important, because you can easily browse different patches, choose a layer you like and copy it into another instances layer.
This also works for all other copy/paste things. Hope that helps!
