Yeah, I see the troll thread about Waves got locked, but we can still talk about fugly plugins, right?

To be a contender it has to be released in the last five years, because, well, old stuff is all fugly, everybody knows that. At any rate, here's my entry for fugliest plugin, yeah, right from the Waves thread, my god, who thought this was a good idea?

It's very Captain Nemo. Or is it one of those machines from the Matrix... Anyways, it'd be quite scary seeing that popup during a late night session. :scared:

It makes no sense from a practical perspective, but as digital art I find that wonderful. Very pleasing colours, great sense of depth and use of light, stylistically coherent and sharp execution.

It's all probably to mask a mediocre plugin tho.

My random pick (there's more fuglies out there than hotties) - Soundtoys aim to evoke sweet memories from the heydays of Synthedit default UI elements:

I won't go all the way to wonderful with you because I think that whatever value it might have as art is tainted by the fact that it's a U/I for a plugin, but, yeah, I can appreciate the steampunk aesthetic, it (steampunk) might even be ok in a plugin, but a that is just so over the top that it dips down to fugly territory.

Right? LOL!

Haha, they'd probably still be with us if SynthEdit managed to get solidly to 64 bit a bit faster.

I agree that Waves' BVV looks great, but would annoy me as a ui.

I happen to think that 'Parallel Particles' is many times worse, as it neither works as a grandiose slice of steampunk art, nor a decent ui

And, yep, EB is fugly

I wouldn't say that's fugly, rather, a pretty unpractical GUI. Rather looks like a menu in some wicked video game.

But, yes, i also sometimes wonder what came over some devs, when i see thri GUI's, especially in audio applications, it seems like they're rather gifted in DSP work, than in designing useful GUI's.

+1. I think the GUI looks pretty cool, actually, purely from an artistic standpoint. OTOH, I do agree that it's not something that I'd like to stare at for long periods, nor does it rate very highly in the form-vs-function category IMO. But, fortunately, it's just a simple plugin, rather than a DAW or something that requires a whole lot of face time, so...

I really like Rob Papen's work, especially Blue, but Predator 2 takes the cake for fugly GUIs IMO.

Then, again, I like EchoBoy's GUI, so my opinion is probably worthless. :hihi:

I think that you're onto something there. Waves must have hired some gui people from the gaming industry. Awesome sklls, terrible taste!

Oh cmon, that could not have possibly been released in the last five years? That thing has 2005 written ALL over it!

Post

oops (self-administering slap on the wrist) didn't read thread properly... yes, probably was released around 2005!

It's ok, the rules aren't really strict, you get bonus points for new releases though. For sure, that's fugly!
