Almost every "flat" GUI I see is fugly to me. That steampunk monstrosity on the first post looks like it belongs in Myst or something... As a joke device. Its individual details are done very well, but it's utterly awful as an interactive design.

Reminds me of PolyAna, a bit...

That color... the sea of huge knobs with tiny text... that startling blue contrast in the VU meters... and half the numbers are upside down! I'm sure it sounds awesome, but I couldn't use this for any length of time.

Then there's that channel strip with a dinosaur logo, but bashing that is passé

like, sproiing, several frames of animation, there's this little 2 octave keyboard graphic just sticking out of the side of the other thing. like an unsolicited drum machine boner.

it doesn't matter how much salvia divinorum one partakes of, it would never match the dementia of the designer. why didn't i think of that? need to trigger a vst? let's have an animate yellow keyboard grow out the side of things.

no wonder these kids were bloody clueless. i don't really see it as a distended practice of design grown wild so much as intentional dysfunction. a DAW shouldn't hurt your brain. but now, you can blame it on me and salvia divinorum instead of fruity loops, if you like

I'd say none of those Waves plugins are ugly per se. Maybe not best interfaces functionally but definitely not ugly.

If one want's to see fugly then just take a look at dev challange 2016. Every plugin is fugly as hell. Even the oldest Waves interfaces are way way better.

To be a contender it has to be released in the last five years, because, well, old stuff is all fugly, everybody knows that. At any rate, here's my entry for fugliest plugin, yeah, right from the Waves thread, my god, who thought this was a good idea?

I don't know why I haven't posted this yet. And let me say, I LOVE iZotope's functional approach to U/I design. However, this is fugly and difficult to use.

Really, I just want this to be a module in Nectar.
