I have Cubase Artist 8.5. This was a grace period update from Cubase 8. I am planning to buy an upgrade to Cubase Pro 8.5, and my question is will I get a grace period update to Cubase Pro 9, assuming it falls within the deadline.Guillermo Navarrete wrote:I really don't get the whole thing, what version do you currently have, and what update are you planning to purchase and did you received a Grace period already?

You are purchasing Cubase Pro 8.5, wether its an upgrade or a flat out purchase doesn't matter. I can't see why you wouldn't get the grace period update.maschinelf wrote:I have Cubase Artist 8.5. You have to wait until the release date for Cubase 9 is known/released before anyone can answer that question. Its a calculation based on an interval of time subtracted from the launch of the new version which has not been officially announced. So I'd wait a week or two as there is good evidence that a release is imminent given past schedules but that doesn't mean it is destiny.

Grace period is given in regards to the "activation", not the purchase. If he waits until Cubase 8 is out, he will no longer be able to uprchase Cubase 8.5 (at least in the Steinberg shop, maybe from a retailer, but that's uncertain).Scotty wrote:You have to wait until the release date for Cubase 9 is known/released before anyone can answer that question. So, the best solution would be to purchase Cubase Pro 8.5 upgrade right now, and do not activate until Cubase 8 is officially announced/released.

When you purchase you get an activation code. Just leave it in your email inbox. It is your legit 8.5 license but your account will still say whatever version that you are currently using.thejonsolo wrote:Totally lost.fmr wrote:Grace period is given in regards to the "activation", not the purchase. Now, out comes 9, woot!
Go into your eLicenser manager and enter your activation code for 8.5. You now have a valid 8.5 license, woot!
Go online and check the grace period, it will look at your elicenser account and see that your activation happened after 9 came out, you are entitled to a free upgrade, woot!
You will now get a new activation code for 9, go into elicenser, and enter your activation code, you now can use cubase 9, woot!
It is activation, the act of entering your "activation code" into the elicenser software so that you can use the version that you purchased that Steinberg cares about, not the time which you purchased, nor the time which you registered.

He was talking about 8. At first I thought it was a typo till it was repeated...so....still lost. Does he mean 9? And typed it wrong twice?

Sorry, my bad, I'm sure it must be a typo.thejonsolo wrote:He was talking about 8. At first I thought it was a typo till it was repeated...so....still lost. Does he mean 9? And typed it wrong twice?

I'm pretty sure he meant 9 and it was a typo. Anyway, thanks everyone for the replies. I'd guess it should be the same. Was confused because I remember reading a few months back that a grace period can only work on a license once. But I think that actually meant something else i.e. if I buy a license for 8 and activate it after 9 is released, I will get updated to 8.5. An upgrade should definitely qualify as a new license.

You are entitled to the version that is current by the time you "activate" your license. If you had a code to activate Cubase 8, and you enter it when Cubase 8 is announced, you are entitled to Cubase 9. That's how it works, at least with Steinberg and at least for the past releases, AFAIR.maschinelf wrote:I'm pretty sure he meant 9 and it was a typo. Anyway, thanks everyone for the replies. Yes, it was a typo (sorry for the confusion). I meant Cubase 9, of course. The sentence wouldn't even make sense with Cubase 8, since Cubase 8.5 came after.ghettosynth wrote:Sorry, my bad, I'm sure it must be a typo.thejonsolo wrote:He was talking about 8. I thought I was in the Twilight Zone!
Apparently I prefer reality.

Well what makes it confusing is ALL of this "grace period" talk. I mean, to each his own, but I never understood why someone would get something and then not use it? If I happen to fall into a grace period, great. If not, no problem because I really benefited from that product in the meantime.
And there is even talk all the way back to Cubase 7 on this grace period thing. So, you can see how I might get lost in this.
I REALLY hope we hear something tomorrow!
