I wanted to perform maintainance before installing 9, but steps 1 and 6 failed for the same reason: unable to connect to the server.
Guess there's an overload...

Yes, the license server seems to be a bit busy and cannot handle so many requests. I cannot upgrade my license. The email was also not received yet, so it's a good idea to save the activation code/save the last page after the purchase.

As well as my empty recent projects list, all my templates are gone. Is everybody else experiencing the same thing?

Mac OS compatibility is daft, in reality only El Crapitan is supported fully by external developers and its well known for audio issues. Windows 7 is supported , how old is that. I would suggest that many Mac users won't upgrade to this, the minimum 10.10 was bad enough.
Nobody expects developers to support an OS indefinitely but this is crazy.

Just finished Pro 8.5 to Pro 9 - my recent projects from 8.5 were there, and loaded fine etc.

I downloaded the 1.8G updater, and said no to look online for updates. So it ran local files just downloaded only.

But installed Cubase only, said no to everything else in content and stuff.

But look out on MySteinberg account there was a 10.5G link to Cubase_LE_AI_Elements_9.zip file - so they did something wrong there. But luckily did not need the full download right now.

hi,
I *think* your recent projects are stored in the Default file in the Cubase preference folder (not sure if you are on mac or pc), what I would do if I were you, would be temporarily move the Default.xml file from the cubase 9 preference folder and move it to your desktop and copy, not move, the default.xml file from cubase 8/8.5 preference folder to Cubase 9.
Also you can manually copy not move the templates (although they may need a big of retinkering) from the
Project Templates folder in 8.5 preference folder to 9.0 preference folder.

Does anyone know which files from Cubase 8.5 I can get rid of once I'm sure Cubase 9 is installed and working? Is there a easy way to clean up after installing to free up space?

Post

This worked perfectly! Thanks man. In Win 7, the user templates and defaults are in AppData-Roaming-Steinberg- Cubase 8.5 if anybody finds themselves in my shoes.

Like every new version of any software there will be new bugs. If I were you especially with HD space being so relatively cheap I wouldn't quite get rid of 8.5 as yet.

Nice.. :-)
Always like a happy ending.
Did you have an aborted install or something? It usually transfers the stuff unless it sees the folder already exists.

ok, thanks for advice. New to Cubase Pro so I appreciate it.

I didn't have an aborted install but I DID click on the update choice I was offered when I did the installation (to 9.01) so that might be the culprit. Might be better (in retrospect) to install first THEN do the update.

Own Elements and just upgrade to 9 and there is already a patch (9.01) out. After testing 1-2h, i like it so far. Especially for Laptop user or if you only work with a single screen (like me), it's a step forward. Things i don't like at the moment: some effects (Maximizer, Gater etc.) have a new pretty gui while others still have this old boring gui from Cubase 5 till 7.

Quick question...

Never mind, found the answer... Elements does support 3rd party VSTs.

I ask because it is the "intro" version, and it occurred to me the VST references in the description and manual could just be towards the first party ones already included. It's not readily clear (at least to me :ud: ).
The only silly daw like that is StudioOne, that I know about.
Never on Cubase Elements 7 and 8 that I had.

There is usually a comparison chart pdf between products, but not sure if 9 is up yet.
Good place to see what differs.
