Midi is not sapmlitude's strong point... even with v8, You're still better off with logic/cubase/sonar by far.

HI

Those screen shots look deceiving!

One of the things that attracted me to Samplitude was that the Piano-roll (where I do most of my work) looked like (I know looks are decieving) a well laid out and visually workman like space - the Demo will be the decider of course.

I know in V7 it was terrible... lots of bugs, workflow was way off (too many clicks/button presses to get simple things done)...

V8 looks like the improved the functionality but left the oh-so-wodnerful samplitude workflow intact. More options, more features.... more menus, more cludge.

Not to take away from samp though, for some people that's a real selling point to have all the options and features. From what Ive read from your posts... you dont seem like the kinda guy who wants to fool with a lot of options much haha :)

HI

Does it show :hyper:

Thats why letting go of Logic is ripping me apart - it's funny, thinking about it, the way I work in Logic is almost transparent - I play, record, jam and don't even think of controls or the mechanics of the process - a lot of people looking at Logic would laugh - I only use a SMALL portion of whats on offer, I don't like headaches!

I think your in the same boat as me Flipper . I agree the Logic workflow is very transparent and generally effortless but this only comes from spending many hours of working and learning .Whether I could ever get up to the same speed on Samp I have my doubts but I can't resist a challenge :) I remember the first time I tried Logic on the Atari I didn't manage to get a squeek out of it for the entire weekend . As far as the midi piano roll goes its pretty limited in V7 compared to Logic etc. To be honest it's the lure of the new V8 drum editor that keeps me hanging in there hoping there is life after Logic PC.

All this "snap to" whatever talk is making me crazy.
What I want is "move/copy BY a certain amount" - just as Logic does it. It's the only way to maintain musical sense (i.e. rhythmical relationships).
Whenever I want something to snap to whatever value I'd rather use any sort of quantizing instead of snapping.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Post

I agree with you Sascha :) the Logic way of maintaining the musical relationship of an event when you move it is the best .

HI

I haven't even taken the snap thing in to be honest.

I tend to quantisize (a LOT), but saying that I am talking 32nd's which in my book is quite refined - I could live with that BUT a free flowing option is usefull (essential) for the more talented performance orientated brethwen out there.

As we shall see; there appears to be a little hardcore group here - getting increasingly agitated, excited and downright desperate to sing that love song to the plastic fantastic.

How about a little talk through scenario, what would loading up a softsynth, recording the midi-data followed by editing the data involve?

Flipper.
open samplitude ;)

done.

just kidding.

1. make sure software fx monitoring is enabled, by going to playback/record, and quick going to "monitoring" (this is all one menu) and checking.

if you normally want this on, of course, this step would be bypassed except for the first time.

go to the track you want to use.

from the drop down effects menu,

select

new vsti instrument > choose your poison.

the editor loads.

now, if you have more than one midi in device or have not set it up yet, click on the track properties, which can be accessed by clicking THIS

now here is where you select the midi recording device, and you can also switch the vsti youre using here, and assign with midi learn or cc what parameters are controlled.

real easy.

just hit record now,

and double click the part if you want to edit.
