Can you slave a VSTs on Windows XP machine to another machine running Windows 7-10?

Hi guys,

I still (yep!) use Windows XP running Sonar 8 for making music. It's never been connected to the web, is rock solid and isn't broken, so doesn't need fixing !

However, over the last few years I've come across some fantastic VSTs that will only work inside Kontakt 5.5, and as it won't work with Windows XP I'm considering my options.

Back in the day I was able to slave my 1st DAW PC to my current DAW PC using FXTeleport, which worked very well indeed.

So my question is if I were to buy a new PC with, say, Windows 10 as the operating System and installed a newer version of Sonar, would there be any way to slave my current PC running Windows XP to the new one in order to access the VSTs currently installed on it?

Wishful thinking ?

I don't see why it wouldn't work. I'd say just try it

But... back then you slaved the 1st DAW to the then new machine. Apparently you have abandonned that, and now run everything on one machine. Chances are you'll go through the same moves: initially use the current machine as a slave, and gradually / eventually use only the newest machine. Why not take the plunge and migrate everything?

I come to think of Vienna Ensemble Pro to host remotely - but if they still have software that works with XP and exactly like you describe I cannot tell. It uses ethernet network between machines.

Steinberg has this they call VST System Link that link through audio interfaces.
From Cubase manual
"VST System Link is a network system for digital audio that allows you to have several
computers working together in one large system."

Reaper has something where you can set Reaper master and slave, so what you have could be scanned into Reaper probably - but not all sure how it works other than ethernet. Unclear how you can mix 32 and 64 bit systems and plugins and how gui become visible from remote machine or not. I tried to my XP machine but didn't come through all the way.

Have a vague memory that Avid has something also for this kind of solution - but not all sure. Their stuff is usually very overpriced expensive as well.

What I hear the most about, and all good - is Vienna Ensemble - and newer Sonar has support for this kind of multi midiport connections. I was thinking at using a machine to host stuff that need iLok - not having to have that software on my main daw machine.
