Saved Composition Folders Empty

Hi

Not sure if this is the right place to ask a newbie question, but here goes anyways...

Having followed some of the tutorial videos I dived in and had a go at creating an 8 bar trial composition consisting of eight generic generator phrases which I changed around using the generators properties. I was pleased with the result and decided to save the composition to return to it later and expand on it. The following day I started RC and went to open the composition, via Recents, only to find I received an error message stating an invalid composition file. I then tried to locate said file in the folder I saved it to (E:\Rapid Composer\Compositions) and discovered the sub folder called Freyja.rcCOMP (Freyja being the composition title) but it was totally empty. I rechecked the tutorial video to see if I had done something wrong but could not see that I had. This may well be a newbie error, but I would dearly love guidance on what I may have done wrong, or where my composition may be.

Thanks in advance, Andy :?

Hi Andy,

yes, this is the right place to ask questions, and sorry for the late reply. I am shocked to read your question because when there is any error during writing the composition, an error message is displayed.
I suppose RapidComposer has sufficient rights to write to that location. Have you tried saving the file to a different directory, either on the same drive, or on a different drive? I am wondering what is happening because I haven't received such report yet.
I suspect that the file system on E: got corrupted. Can you open "cmd.exe" and type "chkdsk E:" and see if it spits out errors?

Thanks,
Attila

Hi Attila

I will check out your suggestions and report back either way.

Hi Attila

I quickly dragged in 4 phrases, once without any adjustment and a Save to same location as my Freyja compositions, once with adjustments and a Save, again to same location and once using Save As... to same location. All worked fine as can be seen in attached screen clips, with populated folders and comp files. I then checked RC's Open>Recent files browser and all are shown, including the Freyja compositions.

I also did an additional test using the VST instrument I used in my original compositions along with generic generated phrases and these both "saved", "saved as" and "opened" back into RC no problem.

One thing I can think I may have done originally was create the Folder "Compositions" within the Save dialog when saving the Freyja compositions to my E drive workspace, other than that I don't think I did anything too different than the above tests.

It now seems to work and I am happy that it does as I think RC is awesome and will help me immensely with my compositions.

It may have been a small glitch or possibly due to the fact that my drives get indexed at 2:00am and as I was carried away playing and learning RC until nearly 3:00am before saving the compositions, they may have got messed up by the indexing (not Windows Indexing a 3rd party Indexer linked to back up software).

Now it appears to be working I am fine about it. I was just concerned if I had missed something in the tutorials and not done something correctly prior to saving.

Thanks for a great program,
Cheers
Andy
