Whatever, guy on bleeding edge OS that is main culprit for his DAW problem talks about playing safe with software, whatever.woggle wrote:typically, snide gets you nowhere in life - and in this case makes you look a bit ignorantZexila wrote:Why not start with an actual OS than, instead of bleeding edge one with every new update breaking something.woggle wrote:But I hate unreliable programs - I would rather use something simple and reliable than something with lots of great features that crashed a few times a year.

not my fault if you don't understand IT but think you do - please never respond to anything I ever post as I have you filtered out and will not see itZexila wrote:Whatever, guy on bleeding edge OS that is main culprit for his DAW problem talks about playing safe with software, whatever.woggle wrote:typically, snide gets you nowhere in life - and in this case makes you look a bit ignorantZexila wrote:Why not start with an actual OS than, instead of bleeding edge one with every new update breaking something.woggle wrote:But I hate unreliable programs - I would rather use something simple and reliable than something with lots of great features that crashed a few times a year.

Sensitive much, it's you who said that last Windows 10 update is making problems for that DAW's and it's you who is talking about playing safe, simple and whatever, complete paradox.woggle wrote:not my fault if you don't understand IT but think you do - please never respond to anything I ever post as I have you filtered out and will not see itZexila wrote:Whatever, guy on bleeding edge OS that is main culprit for his DAW problem talks about playing safe with software, whatever.woggle wrote:typically, snide gets you nowhere in life - and in this case makes you look a bit ignorantZexila wrote:Why not start with an actual OS than, instead of bleeding edge one with every new update breaking something.woggle wrote:But I hate unreliable programs - I would rather use something simple and reliable than something with lots of great features that crashed a few times a year.

I would ignore the OS talk. Apple is definitely not an OS that people go to if they want to do away with problems on every update. My goodness, the irony.
In the end, every OS has issues with some configurations. And things can cause crashes that have nothing to do with the OS. Some copy protection schemes can cause issues as they are commonly driver based. I know Samplitude used to use the WIBU Codemeter dongle, then got rid of the dongle, but I think they were still using the codemeter runtime. I do NOT know if they still do, but it may be worth checking into.
I also know that Magix loves to install a bunch of crap on your machine. I don't know if this has extended into the Samplitude line, but with their video and Music Maker lines, etc., it is terrible. They install extra utilities for burning disks, organizing media, etc. And I believe a couple of the things they install will run on startup by default.
Again, I do NOT know if these have extended into the Samplitude range, but it is at least worth checking into to see if any of those items are causing the crashes. What did the BSOD screen say? It usually gives a driver that caused the issue, which gives you a starting point.

I know what you mean Brent because in the past I have used other Magix products though as I recall every one of those was an option and they might have been nicked by default you could opt out. With Samplitude it's been too long to remember tbh but I dont recall issues with this on upgrades

thanks Brent - there were a few things I think - a CD burner app, but that could have been linked in as some sort of burn to CD thing.
As far as cause, most likely to do mixing 32 and 64 plugins. I had read somewhere (possibly in this thread) that there have been issues with that. Someone on the Cakewalk forum recommended utilities from here http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html for problems experienced with Sonar at the same time.
very useful !
strange that the samplitude forum is down for such a long time though - I have not been able to access it to see any response to posting there
http://support2.magix.net/boards/sampli ... s-english/ is not working for me for the last 24 hours or so

Who mentioned anything about the Apple or OS X (especially in the thread about Windows only DAW's), meant any other supported and tested version of OS or in this case Windows 7 or 8.1, that's the point, being on trusty, tested and safe version of OS too, Windows or OS X, not playing catch with developers every new OS update, that just calls for problems...but hey, whatever keeps monotony away and stuff happening.koolkeys wrote:I would ignore the OS talk. Yeah, I can't say for sure. I know for a fact that in my case, the lower end Magix apps did it (I had one of their video editing apps and something else I don't remember). I don't recall having those issues with Samplitude (I only have up to Pro X1, though I've used the demos of newer versions). But I didn't know if Magix decided to throw those things in. I just remember wondering why three or four different utilities had to run at startup. Not likely the problem here with the OP, but you never know!Hink wrote:I know what you mean Brent because in the past I have used other Magix products though as I recall every one of those was an option and they might have been nicked by default you could opt out. You're right, you didn't mention Apple. My badZexila wrote:Who mentioned anything about the Apple or OS X (especially in the thread about Windows only DAW's), meant any other supported and tested version of OS or in this case Windows 7 or 8.1, that's the point, being on trusty, tested and safe version of OS too, Windows or OS X, not playing catch with developers every new OS update, that just calls for problems...but hey, whatever keeps monotony away and stuff happening.koolkeys wrote:I would ignore the OS talk. But the point does still pertain here. Windows 10 is no better or worse at this point than Windows 7 as a general OS in terms of stability. In fact, once the first couple of updates came out, Windows 10 has been very solid for me. In no way is it an unprofessional or illogical choice. It just has problems like every OS when it comes to different configurations. If a driver is written poorly, it can bring a whole system down. In fact, the MAJORITY of stability problems caused on any OS, whether Windows or Apple, come down to third party code and not the OS itself.
So with that in mind, I recommended he look into the copy protection and other utilities. Or as he has mentioned, something to do with the mixing of 32 and 64 bit plugins could cause it to happen if Samplitude has a bug preventing some things from working together, though it wouldn't be my first guess.
So I just don't think the OS is really an issue in this case.

He said that after the update problem occurred, I'm just going by his words, nothing else.koolkeys wrote:So I just don't think the OS is really an issue in this case.
My other point is clear, would rather be using OS that is by now ironed out of the most bugs and on the safe side of things, which older OS should be by now with any major developer who supported it since few years back, stuff can happen for sure, but that is just not going to be fault of the OS update in this case. Being on bleeding edge calls for problems, not saying it can't work, it works for plenty of people, but for plenty just causes problems too, so for someone who is following playing safe ideology, bleeding edge OS just doesn't fit into it. But hey, let's drop it.

Off Topic Question: Does the KVR forum have a buglet?
I ask because (repeatedly) I'll be logged on with my iPad, hit reply, type in a reply, hit submit, and it takes me to the login screen even though I was already logged in, and then I'll log in and it shows me the edit / reply to post screen again, but everything I previously typed is gone.
I assume that may partly be the reason for the occasional duplicate posts you see scattered around here?
