This is currently $19. I plan to demo it but wondering if there are any Team KVR opinions on it? What does it compare to?

Charlatan 2 with some extra options. I like it. And for that money it is a real fun little synth. Stable, smooth, a nice and simple "modmatrix" and i really like the filter->drive/shaper->filter2 routing.MogwaiBoy wrote:This is currently $19. Wow, all I can say, that is a no-brainer
I got it at KVR charity auction a couple of years back, probably paid $50 for it.
The plug has kind of went off the radar of most users these days.
Hopefully such a sale can reignite some interest in it, and also for the dev to develop it further.
Best comparison, I would say something like Steinberg Retrologue.

exactly what i was thinking, with the addition of a second filter, a formant filter mode, a sub osc, a waveshaper, built in chorus/delay, a patch browser and way many more modulations. at $19 it is tempting. (have to ask myself if i really need those extras)exmatproton wrote:

Just downloaded the trial. Very weird installer, wants to install everything available for free from kilohearts with the synth, so, you have to make sure that all that stuff is deactivated when you install the synth. And when you want to uninstall the trial, you need to run the installer again, ugh. The sound didn't really impress me, neither did the feature set. As you mentioned Charlatan, i think that one sounds way better. Anyway, i guess for $19, this is ok. I wouldn't really pay more than that for it though.

I wouldn't pay €20,- for Charlatan. The filter/shaping section is great and lots more mod possibilities in ONE. Also, i find the "always-on"-wobbling (fake analog pitchshifting) in Charlatan very annoying.chk071 wrote:Just downloaded the trial. Now, i wouldn't pay the full price for ONE either...around €100,-?? no way

My biggest gripe with Charlatan is the feature set. I really wished it had a bit more capabilities. Sound wise, especially when using the unison, it gives many payware synths a run for their money, IMO. Sort of the same problem as with TAL-Noisemaker. Both really good synths, but, unfortunately, very limited...

agree. back when it was in developement i'd beg for a sub osc, more waveforms (sin) and a mod matrix. but i guess thats pushing it pretty hard for a freebie. Ah well, still gets alot of bass work from me.chk071 wrote:My biggest gripe with Charlatan is the feature set. I really wished it had a bit more capabilities. How can anybody compare Charlatan to One with so many additions?

Indeed you should have a sit down with yourself to examine that.(have to ask myself if i really need those extras)

Bought KHS One...made a few patches...got bored with it...sold it....
It sounds nice but I don't think I'll buy it again not even for $19.

So I stop using it after few weeks only.

well, i can only compare it to charlatan for bass sounds as that is what i use charlatan exclusively for.Numanoid wrote:How can anybody compare Charlatan to One with so many additions?![]()

then after sitting down with myself i wondered about other sounds.... and i decided
i already have Arcsyn that i got for free, to do similar sounds KHS ONE does.
