I like pro r but using it on drums makes them lose impact/punch however I set it whilst this doesn't happen with my other reverbs and I think this is because pro r has a 3d quality so my drums lose focus with it.

Have you tried tweaking the pre-delay very carefully? As long as you are within 0 to 40ms of pre-delay you will inevitably run into phase cancellation at various frequencies due to how dense the reverb is (this is true for real world as well as numerous other reverbs). So a good starting point for drums, if you just want to add some extension to the drum (very common with snares), is to start at 40ms and increase the pre-delay from there. How abruptly the reverb will kick in after the pre-delay is controlled with the distance knob. It's also relatively safe to use heavy modulation on drums.. this means turning up the "character" knob past 80%.

I think I know what he means, it's the old friend "gain staging"

What I mean is that if it's in-line (not a bus) then it definitely can effect "volume"

But, I don't fall for that. I can make that up any number of ways, I only care about the overall "character" and don't get lost in "it's softer, so I don't like it"

Also it's not the gain staging. It sounded less focused also when I increased the output level so I tried different levels too and lots of other tweaking.

I just couldn't resist buying this now that my demo ran out. Think it will be a go-to for me. Still need my other character verbs for special occasions, but this is too killer to pass on.

I always try to be critical of fabfilter's new plugins, and always end up not only buying them, but using them in every single production :love:

Some reverbs do this - like Metric Halo's HaloVerb. As you increase the Wet, the dry signal decreases. So when you go 50% wet/dry, the volume of the dry is lower than bypassed. It depends how the mix control works. I guess that's why some reverbs are more suited to being set 100% wet in aux sends rather than wet/dry mixed in channel inserts. In an aux send you retain 100% of your dry signal.
