The dilemma:
I have a big fat desktop PC+21 monitor.
I use EMU-X card, which is very good (especially with the sampler included) but must be fitted on desktop..
I have a little mixer, 2 event tr8.
I use all thisn with a MIDI controller 4 octaves and 2 shure SM57 for amps and voice..
I wonder if I could get all this more 'compact'..
Especially, on the PC side.. I'd like to get a laptop x my sequencer and a flat lcd as monitor to save dust, space and heat..
BUT I'm having trouble in finding a good compromise as of s.card and sampling..
I was thinking about some other 24/96 card x laptop and maybe get a hardware sampler..
But this will limit my actual potential with a full 24/192 s.card and a very versatile software sampler..
What do u suggest?
Do u think there's anyway to override this prob?
Is any of u working with a 'portable' solution?

1) the flat lcd display comes with the laptop PC (although somewhat smaller than 21 inch)
2) if you're thinking about buying a hardware sampler, why then also invest in a soundcard?
3) What sequencer do you use? Most hosts like Reason, Fruity Loops include quite good samplers. Please identify the 'good' parts of the samper included with your EMU-X card. If you name them here, then someone can suggest other software samplers with similar qualities.

Depends on how portable you need. Maybe a small PC with LCD monitor instead? This way you can still use PCI sound-cards and also have a cheaper but powerfull PC. Maybe take a look on those Mini-VIA computers, not sure if they are powerfull, but I know that some processors do have SSE instructions and higher-speeds. 
Cheaper than a Notebook. Unless you will have some extra dope to get a new notebook latter, don't get one. I got one and is already felling "old" and sluglish (is that the right word!?) Also, if you have problems with a piece of hardware on the notebook, you are in trouble.
Just my 2 cents anyway.
