Acording to some people, all this gear means Junkie XL must be a terrible musician who never never gets anything done

He gets a lot done because none of that gear is real. Like those fake, plastic mobile phones used for display purposes, this is just a front. When the camera's aren't rolling, he is in a scummy bedsit, hunched over a laptop, which is running 'Reaper', on XP...in 32-bitfoosnark wrote:Acording to some people, all this gear means Junkie XL must be a terrible musician who never never gets anything done
In other news: Great vid! Insane amount of gear. Great attitude

Chemical Brothers' studio looks similar. Would be a total creativity killer for me, i must admit. Less is more it is for me, all the way. Whenever i even see a modular rack which fills a wall, i rather want to run, than sit down and fiddle with it.

Though I do appreciate the tactile feel of hardware controllers, and would maybe appreciate actually playing with a real modular synth, I agree that this is more than a little overwhelming.chk071 wrote:Lol.el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote:He gets a lot done because none of that gear is real. I do think it's beautiful, though

I'd love to be able to spend some time playing the real gear, but I wouldn't want to own it. I couldn't be bothered with all the setting up and maintenance.
I might not be getting all of the sound working in the box, but I'm also getting none of the hassle.

One builds up to working with that much stuff I guess. I would rather not deal with that much stuff either, but a few years ago I would probably have said the same thing about my current rig. Even now, looking at someone else's 9U Eurorack system (which many would consider modest) just kind of makes my head hurt, but at the rate my 3U has come together, I could see myself getting there by 2020.
Also, film/tv composers will often leave analog/modular synths in a particular state to come back to later. I found it kind of annoying even to leave my MIcroBrute untouched for 5 weeks during a remix project on the chance we were going to shoot video. I prefer to get a track done in one sitting if possible, then tear down my modular and scramble the knobs on the MicroBrute.
