I personally (!) don't like having a large collection. Zebra, Absynth, Spectral, Bazille and Falcon will do just fine. But I'm always on the lookout for exotic spices. This year I only added two synths: ArcSyn and The Mangle. I'm very happy with both.

If money allowed - unfortunately this period of the year is for me annual survival time - I would probably add SoundMorph's Dust. They made one big mistake in trying to get it out before Christmas which was too soon. Now they have to repair bugs and have shattered the faith of many potential buyers. But Dust looks very powerful.
I only mention this here because Dust was announced this year.

Now i have a new one....Dust (but i would call it more FX rather than a synth....but it´s market as granular synth too).
Because it´s just so different from everything else i have and i can´t stop to play with it.
On top it has the best GUI i ever saw (for my personal taste) and is such a beauty to look at....even when i zoom it full screen (macbook pro retina 15").
I can get lost in it for hours.
I even would go so far it is at the moment my favourite tool ever to create sounds with and i give it my personal award.
As usual.....it´s just a personal preference.

I think I have it summed up. This is what I think has been RELEASED in the last 12 months and used the most during 2016.

RePro-1- Literally out the door I started using this. It has appeared on MANY tracks I have done in the last few months. Just a great sound.

Chromaphone 2- I know that this was released late last year and was built from v1. But there has rarely been a piece of music that did not have at least one instance of this on it. Last December I finished an album where I would put this as the center softsynth used.

Avenger- They are spending the correct amount of time, effort, and energy to get this right. Already there is TONS of support/sounds for it. I have used it on several projects and expect it to really shine for me in 2017.
