Ni apparently is trying to make Komplete Kontrol the replacement for that. Being you so used to Kore, what are the main differences you find in each one? (I usually don't like sub-hosts, that's why I don't use any, unless I have to, like with Vienna)
I don't think Komplete Kontrol is in any way a replacement for Kore and don't think NI ever intended it to be, although user pressure might, over time, nudge it further in that direction. Komplete Kontrol is essentially intended just as an interface between their S-Series keyboards (and also Maschine to an extent) and all their plugins, that also provides some librarian functionality for the whole Komplete range and since they opened it up to third parties, also their plugins (although only factory banks). Therein lies the first problem, it really sucks at importing third party banks and user patches, Kore at least had a batch import function as long as the presets/banks were in a VST standard format and also made it much easier for users to edit library patches and add their own. And that's a key difference, although it did also function as a librarian and controller it was very much created as a sound design tool (particularly Kore 2) with the ability to create complex multi layered patches involving multiple instruments and fx (turning any plugin into a sound engine or processor), create macros combining all of them that were controllable with the hardware and still the only really working implementation of realtime preset morphing for both single plugins and multi patches. Those 2 things, combined with the hardware control and librarian function make it a superlative sound design tool and instrument/effect (I think of it as a meta instrument really). Komplete Kontrol is just a controller, and a much more limited one at that, and as a librarian is also much more limited.

Mainstage might make it worth picking up a mac laptop. Certainly it replaces most of what I used a workstation for. The only thing I miss is the arranger feature of my old Motif XS.

So, I have three instances of Turnado on my master, with one rotary per plug set to control the global dictator slider, which opens each of the 8 FX in turn. I also have five knobs dedicated to Logic Tape delay, and a single knob for reverb send. These controls don't change per patch.

Then, I have various patch templates. For example, one patch I can run 8 or even 16 instances of FM8 or Korg wavestation/M1, with splits, layers and velocity splits. Another is two instances of Omnisphere with the multis set up within the plugin itself. Another is four instances of Alchemy.. etc etc. Then, when I find a useful combination of sounds I save as a new non-generic patch.

Basically, it's the best workstation I ever owned in terms of scope, and although it's not ideal, a decent used macbook pro and some low CPU plugs might be cheaper than some new hardware - especially if you port your existing plugs and MIDI controller between setups.

This is the most intuitive VST host among the all the hosts I tried and owned. Finally I can use my VST instruments with the ease of hardware, and yet a lot more flexbility and power.

Has anyone tried Lethal Audio? http://www.lethalaudio.com (http://www.lethalaudio.com)

It's my 2nd VST (first was nexus) but I've been playing with it for about a month and can attest to the quality of the sounds. Bass, lead, synth are all top shelf. Others I would rate good to excellent.

Expansions are fun and free (for now, I think).
