Is this patch compatible with the previous versions?

Post

Romain Rousseau wrote:Unfortunately, I think it might be more than a few hours. Most probably we'll have to wait till tomorrow : nothing has changed lately on Xils-lab's website (it's 9PM in France, so the office might be closed.), plus Lotuzia didn't post anything here for a few hours...

I wouldn't want to be too much critic about Xils (something they didn't plan might have happened) because I really love their products, and I think Xavier Oudin is a kind of genius that does his best to produce top-of-the-art software synths as a craftsman would do it. I know it really is a work of love for him. But IMHO, if the Xils guys thought "we'll finish to publish everything online tomorrow 'cause it's too late for today, no one will care...", I'm sorry to say they're wrong. There's no good product without a clear, stable and reliable commercial policy : PolyKB III was supposed to be available today, not... later. I know one could find it not so important (and that is, besides really important things, very true), but as a communication manager myself I was always told that when someone communicates about a product to its customers, it's part of the promise about the quality of the product itself. Xils homepage says "update now", but I just can't. Does something identical will happen when I'll press a button on the synth? Will it work? One might ask, sorry to say...

I hope my statement is wrong, and so would clearly apologize for this - and please pardon my bad English, I'm "only" French
Eheheh we're only french too, no worries :)

Well the PolyKB is -still- normally due to be released today, but it seems that the delay is due to some preset integration in the v1.0.

So we're doing our best, and I'll give news as soon as I'll get some. We nervertheless apologize for any possible delay. It won't be too long I think/hope.

For owners of the PolyKB II/II.5 :

* PKB II/II.5 presets are 100% compatible with PKB III ( Upward compatibility)

* PKB III presets will load, and be read, in/by PKB II/II.5, but missing data will simply be ignored ( possibly resulting in no sound at all depending on the preset data)

Also :

* PKB III and PKB II will share the same licence.
* PKB III will be installed in the same directory than PKB II ( if PKB II has been previously installed on the machine) They will share the same preset directory.
* PKB II & III will however still be seen as two distinct synthesizers by your host ( So you can use both in a project)

There's no option to buy it on your website.
As soon as possible.

How can that work if PKB III is a paid update?

Lotuzia, thank you for your answer. I hope you guys at Xils didn't find my comment to be too offensive. I'm just an impatient fan! Reading it again, I realize it might be seen as a very negative comment, but it wasn't my intention. I could delete it if you want. I wouldn't want it to pollute this thread while you do your best to launch a new product. So tell me. Keep up the good work, and I hope I'll be able to try the PolyKB III before going to bed

I guess it means if you buy PKB III, it will overwrite the PKB II installation.

You can't have both PKBII and III on the machine at the same time ?
Sounds like you can, that's not my concern though.

So PolyKB III is released, and if I should happen to be in Los Angeles, it would be just after lunch, so they kept their promise on this date ;)

Not really. No add to cart button... ;)

Back on the topic... will it be fully NKS compatible (new presets)?

Yeah, I noticed that too, hopefully it will appear sooner than a new Plugimon :D

Why, oh why, didn't you fix the GUI? Parts are skeuomorphic, and others look more birds eye flat. It's super off-putting in PKB II.5 :(

The sound is top-drawer, which is why it's so upsetting. Sorry to sound negative, but I was praying to the spaghetti monster that you'd see sense for PKB III. I was taught this stuff in GCSE level graphic design :!:
