Are you rewriting History or something? If there's something to blame Christianity for, it's about having preserved the civilization during the "Dark Ages". Those "Dark Ages" were caused by the fall of the Roman Empire (which was the responsible for the spread of chrisitianity all over Europe) at the hands of what were called Barbarians (namely the german tribes and the goth tribes), not by Christianity.fluffy_little_something wrote: All of Europe used to have her own religions, which made no less sense than the imported ones from the Middle East. But unfortunately some traitors did force the crap from the Middle East on Europe, and caused a lot of death in the process, be it in Europe herself, be it in the colonies around the globe. I wonder how much more advanced we would be today if Christianity had not caused those infamous dark centuries during the Middle Ages...
Yes, some crimes have been commited in the name of Christ, but the worse of them were actually commited here in the southern countries by the Inquisition, after the Reform. Before that, I only remember the crusades (which, BTW happened AFTER the muslims having invaded Europe also in the name of religion) and the persecution of jews.

For some reason Norwegian television in the 80's had to show this on x-mas day, and there was only one TV channel at that time so no escape, the dark outside, Bergman chill insidefmr wrote:A movie plot (and Bergman had a predilection by dark stories)Numanoid wrote:Did you ever watch Bergman's Fanny & Alexander ?fmr wrote:I don't know those studies, but it looks like a Hollywood plot. Cleaned. Miltz said it. Let's stay in Christmas mood whether we are celebrating Christ, the sun or both.

This one also isn't for Christmas (or about Christmas) but it could very well be (and is a good way to remember Leonard Cohen, which died this year, not so long ago). There are countless versions, probably several better than this one, but this is Leonard:

Spare me, you silly devil worshippersIncarnateX wrote:Which part of the OP premise "for those of you who don't hate Christmas" didn't you understand?fluffy_little_something wrote:With me it is the opposite. Whatever some dressed up Santa Clause did to you that would make you to troll Christmas threads like this, it must have hurt. And I think I know exactly where.
You poor thing. I will save a prayer for you
