So here is a little moving 2 emitter pad sound.
I used the same sound source (a whole track i made) into 2 emitters with different pitch and modulations.
I triggered it via single midi notes.
I just slightly scratched it here and think it needs a bit of trying to get the best out of it but i like it so far.
What i really would love would be an indicator for the position in the sample. So that it´s easier to modulate trough certain parts, chords, notes...whatever.
Good headphones recommended!

very nice, im still disappointed and could have known, cause everything is always sounding quick looped sequences. means you cannot really do a song with it or even a long texture (2-3 mins).... a stretchfunction is needed in my opinion.

The same thought occurred to me. A useful addition I think.Cinebient wrote: What i really would love would be an indicator for the position in the sample. So that it´s easier to modulate trough certain parts, chords, notes...whatever.

Yeah it's definitely very rhythmic, to put it positively. It helps to untick the 'sync' button in the modulators and set a very low LFO frequency and also have the sequencer play just one impulse on a long sequence, but the fact that the initial impulses come from a sequencer - and thus always will appear sequenced - is almost impossible to overcome.Caine123 wrote:very nice, im still disappointed and could have known, cause everything is always sounding quick looped sequences. means you cannot really do a song with it or even a long texture (2-3 mins).... a stretchfunction is needed in my opinion.
It's funny how the 'rate' parameter of the sequencer is about the only parameter that can't be modulated. A noise LFO on that parameter would effectively make the pulses random despite the sqeuencer.
The LFOs need some work IMO. If I understand what's going on correctly, they currently aren't limited to the range of the parameter they are modulating, so if you don't set the offset and scale just right, you end up with a LFO that e.g. jacks your knob up to 100% in no time, then leaves it there while it overshoots for most of its cycle, then comes back down and jacks the parameter to zero and leaves it there. It's total guesswork as to where within the parameter range (much less the pulses of the software) your LFO will be 'working'.

I agree that it is maybe better for rythmic stuff but you can get smooth or even freezed like sounds if you trigger it very fast or manual with long envelopes etc.
But it´s def. hard to get there with Dust.
You also can´t do things like reverse grains etc. but this tool isn´t really build for this stuff.
The great spatial things with the flow are the main part.
The granular engine indeed is not the best from the granular world.
I tryed a few things with the same sound source in Falcon, Alchemy 2 and Dust....i like Dust by far the most here due to the flow field.
But even within Alchemy 2 and Falcon i get the same loop feel if you sustain a note.
Good thing is you can easy play it like a "normal" synth.
The IRCAM stretch or scrub inside Falcon is maybe the best but it´s not usable on my machine for live usage due to very high cpu.
For experimental and long evolving, drones or making pads out of short piano attacks, guitar sounds or even out of noise from a washing machine etc. Borderland Granular is the holy thing (but yep, it´s an iOS only tool). I can´t even describe how creative this thing is....there are a tons of you-tube videos if you don´t know that. This combined with the binaural flow of Dust would be my granular dream machine.
But as with synths, we sadly can´t get all within one tool.
For me Dust is still my personal plug-in of the year 2016 because i can get lost in it and will have a lot fun to experiment with it. But mainly i´m still hoping for the FX version because that is what i want it really for.....live input.
Merry Christmas!

Here is a preset i experimented with to create some kind of random pad, noise, drone sound (depending a lot of the sound source and pitch of course).
Depending also on the sound source it needs a few seconds to "take off".
Try it with different sound sources (better ones without sharp transients).
It´s also recommended to use a limiter because it can go out of control depending on teh sound source too.
Let your sequencer play and play manually with the position of the grains.

I try to come up with some better presets. But i think this thing is deep like hell but also often hard to control or to go in a specific direction....but i like experimental things
Indeed, another thing i miss is copy/paste of emitters including all modulations and settings (or i didn´t find it yet).

I too have been having a blast with this; in many ways much deeper than it first appears, esp. with the effectors and flow fields. Took me a while to get oriented: helped to understand envelope sustain is effectively the particle volume control, and that granulized interval and length should really default to 1.0 to begin with...

SoundMorph Dust V1.1.1 is not giving out the channels panned anymore! This is very annoying - all mono now. There seems no way to change this. It is the same on two different installations with Cubase 8.5 on OS X el Capitan.

Email them at support, they are very quick to respond

Of course, I did. Just left a note here on the forum too.jc_vt wrote:Email them at support, they are very quick to respond

Some experimental soundtrack thing (or whatever).
It´s a more monoton track but i wanted to hear how that binaural effects and rythms works.
So the track is a bit crap and boring but i like what i can do with Dust.
I used 4 (still simple custom presets) and 1 tweaked default for all the background and ambience stuff.
At least for me it is the best binaural thing i used yet. Even the binaural panner in Logic are way off for me.
Listen for a few other those binaural sounds and watching the flow field transforming from chaos into geometric forms or abtract things is like digital drugs and make my head dull

The longer i use it, the more i explore here and there. This thing is usable for great textures and the best FX machine i ever used yet.
I began to try my own algorithms for the flow field and modulation pitch and the other parameters from the emitters via particle is awesome.
This seems market for game FX and music and cinematic trailer like stuff and the default patches mostly too but this can be so much more.
Sadly it doesn´t seem to save my own samples within a patch if i would share them.
So i think you would have to put the samples and presets in seperate folders?
I also have to figure out if i can save my own algorithms.
If not i will ask the developers for some these things.....of course not this year
It´s not the "load in and ready to play granular synth" like Falcon, Alchemy 2, The Mangle etc. or the awesome creative granular semi-generative playground like Borderland Granular which is the only one where you can overlay as much samples as you want and/or add as much grain clouds as you want can move and resize the waveforms and everything in real time (hard to explain....but it´s a unique tool) etc.
But hell, Dust is my favourite granular tool now. The most important part is that it is just fun to play with it for me, even when the musical part is not so easy.
If i go wild it is heavy on cpu but it´s worth it for me.
At least i don´t think i have any tool which could gave me similar results.
The workflow is not perfect compared to other tools but the GUI and visual feedback, especially in the flow field is just very very nice.
I would hope that i could use the FX version also just as a kind of binaural panner without the granular engine.
But seems i´m already asking for too much. For 70 dollar (with the sale) it was a great buy for me for sure!
