Hmm...
I wonder if this is how we really welcome someone in real life -- celebrity or not. Did he kill your puppies or something that he deserves all this? If I were treated the way it is in this thread, I would probably never want to step a foot there again. Maybe cultural difference and I just don't understand it, though...

Peace, my friends. I'm not seeking arguments here.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

This is what happens when a celebrity signs up for an account, doesn't come back for years, pops in just long enough to say hello, disappears again, and we're all left wondering if it was even really him in the first place (witness MaoMoonDog).Hink wrote:out of respect for JR I dont want to lock this but am leaning that waypoonna wrote:Hmm...

Who really cares? Nobody.
Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

Well, if someone killed my dog, I sure wouldn't be posting humorous jpg images to 'get back' at them.poonna wrote:Hmm...

And if someone made a mashup like that Chtulhu/Liberace/Rudess thing I posted (created by Shane Sanders about 10 years ago), only put my face in there instead, I would laugh so hard my whole room might well suffer damage from the coffee or beer I had been drinking.
The internet is a rough place. There are blogs of every sort, covering topics from politics to technology to English Literature to beer and wine, where serious abuse is heaped on the writers in the comments. Hell, I have seen a critical review of Strunk and White's 'Elements of Style' on an educational website where the author was called an 'idiot' and an 'ignorant troll'. This isn't just a few subcultures, it is the norm.
I agree that it would be nice if kvr were a more civilized place than that, but generally it is. This thread has some silly images in it, but no abuse or insults that I have seen. I myself have nothing whatever against Mr. Rudess or Dream Theater as a whole. They are obviously talented musicians.
At the same time, I have always felt there was something off-putting about the way some people regard any commercially successful artist as someone deserving of special consideration. KVR members have been making silly gifs of each other since forever, without any malicious intent at all. Including Mr. Rudess in that culture isn't an insult; it's merely a mild form of hazing.
But in the spirit of holiday goodwill, I will say this:
Welcome back to KVR Mr. Rudess. We are happy to have such a talented musician in our community, and we hope you will join us in conversations about topics that interest you. Please don't be offended by the silly humor, which is really just a more civilized form of the sort of obscene trolling and abuse that seems to pervade the web.
Happy Holidays, everyone!
