Sylenth1

S1 is too limited (possibilities wise) with crappy filters and envelopes...spend your money elsewhere.

I really love sylenth for its simplicity and great sound but it is no more musthave in 2016.

Unless you need psytrance basses.
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

Yes, sounds nice, sounds warm, saturated, nice supersaw, okay filters (not the best), but, frankly, feeling a bit spoiled here. There's simply more recent stuff, which sounds great, and, especially in terms of filters, the progress is perceptible. Actually, because i trashed Dune 2 a few times here, i gave it some more time this afternoon, and played a bit more in-depth with it, and must say that, even though i'm still not sure about the general character, those filters are surely something. At least, i would say, for 95 €, as it costs now in the sale, it offers much more value for money. And is superior technically. All it needs are Moog ladder, and Virus filters (the Expander filters are pretty nice though), and maybe a bit less "strawy" envelopes (yes, sorry, that's still one of the main issues i have with it, even when switching on "analog" envelopes. I can see that that might not be an issue for people who simply don't do plucky, or trancy sounds), and it could be really cool. But, that's pretty much a point of view, as i wrote, technically and feature wise, it's superior in any way to Sylenth1. I must say though that i liked playing with it, and my prejudices rather came from demo'ing it when it came out, and neither had the analog style envelopes, nor the Expander filters.
The 'strawy' envelopes issue you mention, whatever that means, doesn't get solved with the MSEGs and the audio rate modulation?

I feel that DUNE 2 can do whatever *I* would need from Sylenth1, but not the other way around. Do you guys thinks it's worth to keep both or too much overlap? Maybe I'll keep Sylenth1, just for the bazillion presets, IDK.
Not only keep both but buy Massive too
OMG lol. I can't take this anymore :hihi:

i have tried the demo, once again (third time, to try the latest iteration (new skin..etc...)) aaannd, no.
Not my synth. Instead, i went for Factory. I am having a blast with that thing!!

Also, PolyKB3 and Arcsyn added to my fav. 2016 synthlist (and bought them; playing daily with all of them). Great year (to me at least) for software synths!

Unfortunately not. I don't really know how to describe it. Make a trance pluck sound, with fast decay (about 50 % or so on most synths), and low sustain level, and turn down the cutoff, and hear how it becomes "plucky", punchy, and thick on other synths, while it stays quite weak, and "blunt" in Dune 2. Maybe i should provide an audio example. It's a classic trance/chillout/whatever sound, and heard in gazillions of tracks. It's a whole lot better now in Dune 2 though, since the introduction of the analog style envelopes. I know that Richard introduced it to "shut up the haters", or something similar, as read on the Synapse forum. :D

If u want a synth that got more try out vps avenger! Its like a workstation synthiziser! Haha makes sylenth1 looks really overpriced in difference of features.

Sold it a long time ago. Bought it again in the sale. 'Bank 4 Ingonator Brass Presets' give a different perspective on this synth imho. Very cool. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. I missed having it around and now I'm enjoying all the new improvements. For me it's a keeper this time. :)
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

Well, please take into account that no synth is perfect and suitable for any kind of job. Maybe that's one DUNE 2 weakness, the plucky sounds. But DUNE 2 has its own strenghts too!. Instead, think of the amazing things you can do with the unique unison/layers engine, great mod matrix with tons of parameters, audio rate modulation, wavetables, better filters, MSEGs, etc..things that Sylenth1 won't ever achieve. DUNE 2 is a completely different beast. And for $99, is kind of a no brainer. Unless you dislike its character. I find it pleasant, kind of 'roland-ish'. When I want to go agressive, plucky, in your face, Spire comes to the rescue.

Buy, sell, buy again, sell again just to keep it. Its very typical in KVR. Whats with such behaviour? :-D i do get when you sell it but then buying again? And sometimes even then selling :-D

I got S1 in summer. Didnt made any sounds just used to open a project of artists ive worked with. In other words for compatibility.

If you dont really need it dont buy it.

Sylenth1 strength isn't really about its features or quality nowadays, but its sound and layout. Also, its currently on sale with Dune 2, so people are under the forces of temptation!
Yes but avenger is the synth that has more usage. Does similear sounds to dune2 as well but cpu hits then 120 percent need so really cant replace dune 2 for xtrillion oscillator detune. But avenger has so awesome features its worth the price its in. Cant go wrong woth neither dune 2 or avenger. But avenger needs cpu and gpu as ive heard issues, but might be early version issues only as well

Sometimes people need money. Choices are made about what to keep and what to part with. I hope you completely understand that first hand for yourself some day. :D
