Yeah the mix is shite, I slapped this together in 3 hours, so not my best effort. Thanks for the feedback on the drums and too much verb, I'll tweak it tomorrow.
Cheers.

Oh, and do you guys hear a crackling in your left channel from about 1:25 (when the lead guitar comes in)? If not, then my headphones are stuffed, dammit!

Nope, I can't hear any crackling at all. I like this, and for me, the drums are fine. I wouldn't change a thing. Another classic Koorby track!

I know the feeling.. spend 2 hours trying to identify what was causing crackles on a channel.. turned out my headphones were wankered

Thanks Steve. Poo! My cans must be wrecked.sdta wrote:Nope, I can't hear any crackling at all. I like this, and for me, the drums are fine. I wouldn't change a thing. Another classic Koorby track!
Actually I do think the drums are a little dominant, and I will tweak them today I think.

Enjoyed, but agreed... the mix seems all wrong here.
The piano needs some lifting and I think the electric is just a tad too much upfront. I'd suggest at first try a mix without the drums at all and if you feel it still needs drums blend them in softly.

Thanks for the tips Mystahr, I've not listened to this for 15 hours and now I see exactly what you mean. The mix is too wet and the drums really are too loud. I'll back off the electric guitar too. Good advice, thanks.Mystahr wrote:Enjoyed, but agreed... the mix seems all wrong here.

Nah, leave the drums as they are. I think they add the right character to this track. Agree about the lead guitar though, you could back that off a bit.
This tune sounds like it needs vocals - you got any planned for it?

If it sounds like a supermarket track it partially at least has to do with the mechanical sounding drum track. This is very much a jazz sounding piece so I do think the drums need re-working.
More swing and a looser feel. A brush kit would fit in here perfectly in my opinion. Back off on the quantize for something like this and see how close you can get without it.

the drums are simply too busy.. they sound like someone hit the "jazz" button on the drum machine, they simply don't fit in with the rest of the track

yeah, yeah; been remixing this and now have vocals on top of this; it's a whole new song, which I'll post up soon. Backed off the drums big time, and much more "space" in the song now.
