Actually this was what i was talking about a few pages ago. It is quite easy to do stuff in DUNE 2.5 not possible with Sylenth1 where one of those features is the wavetables. Talking about that the comparison indeed becomes pointless.
+1 That´s true of course.
However i find it one of the more interesting threads now which reminded me that Dune 2´s architecture let me even do some "modular stuff" better than a hardware or software modular synth :hihi:

True. If then, one could argue about the sound, and that's pretty much down to what people prefer. I've been demoing Dune 2 a bit the last days, and must say that i still don't quite dig the sound. I think that other synths sound warmer, and more pleasant. Actually, i can't even tell exactly what it is. Seems definitely have to do with the filters, but, it also seems to be the synth engine itself. Fair enough, not everything can be to ones liking.

EDIT: Also Predator 2
Uups, i have ACE and just forgot it.
Will be fun to make a little audio rate modulation comparison......
I´m not happy if it doesn´t crash the DAW :D

That´s right......personal taste is the biggest part. I find especially Dune 2 very "warm", full and analog sounding compared to most others out there.
But then everyone seems to love Serum but i find it just harsh and "cold"......our brains are working just different.
I mean in general ALL these synths sounds good and no synth sounds "a million times or what" better than the others.
A listener with overmastered and compressed music with crappy compressed MP3 and horrible beats headphones will never hear a different :hihi:

Have you heard these demos?

No matter what people may think about the genres where such sounds are typically used, I think these are the best sounds ever made for Dune2.

They surely are. Yet, i hear most of the stuff i dislike about it in those demos too. Just listen when on the plucky sounds the filter gets closed. Or the thin phaser sounds.

Sorry, i better shut up, otherwise someone will say that i bash it again, while i'm just expressing what i PERSONALLY think about it. ;) Sami is great BTW, and manages to make everything he uses to sound good. But, the sound demos are also very processed, which is of course fair enough, as those will be a major sale argument. Nothing works better than a good representation of your work i think.

I think I like Dune 2 because it doesn't sound like every other synth. It has a character, good, bad or even downright awful (to some) that doesn't make it come across as the same old same old. In fact, it is one of the few synths that, when I hear it, I know it.

Definitely in my personal top 5 especially if I'm doing a dance track. Conversely, I hear Sylenth1 and it does absolutely nothing for me. I'm not saying it sounds bad. it just doesn't excite me at all. And I can't even begin to explain why.

This is actually my impression too (I've meant "the best sounds of this kind ever made for Dune", not "the best sounds of this kind ever made at all" ). So well, even with truly excellent programming by one of the best sound designers out there Dune doesn't really sound exciting for me.

If anything I really tried to love this synth because I like the GUI, the workflow and the feature set.

Definitely. I already loved the workflow and feature set of Dune 1 (and i have used Dune BE and CM for a long time before going payware). And if Dune 3 would incorporate some more, to me, pleasing sounding filters, and make the general sound a bit less lifeless/cold/sterile sounding, then i'd surely buy it. I just have a feeling that Richard doesn't quite share my taste. ;) Which is totally alright of course, after all, there's a lot of people loving Dune for what it is.

Idk, may be better distortion, some analogue-modelled saturation in the signal path, more coherent sounding unison... Do you like Legend? I've just listened to the factory presets demo and basically heard the same things I dislike about Dune. I guess it is not only about filters since the Legend theoretically should have the most analog sounding filters out there.

There is something "hollow", spacey, polished, clean about Dune's sound. It is perfect for electronic music, but I would not use it for R&B, Fusion, Jazz, etc. Its character would not fit well in my view.

I actually agree with you here.

It has a very polished sound out of the box alright, as do Tone2 synths. I actually like that though. But not right for every genre as you said.
I will take the Lord's name in vain, whenever I want. Hail Satan! And his little goblins too.

I would disagree here too
Every synth can be used for nearly every genre but sadly today every genre, sub-genre and sub-sub-genre seems to have holy rules and tools.
Differ your music and use a non-perfect synths for it :D
The world is not a box.
But what do i know....everything i made is "experimental" :hihi:
