I'd ditch a girl who would try to repress my "music making". Then again, I'm young and my personality is such that I don't have much problems to just ditch people out of my life. As bad as it might sound, there are some perks and perks are in situations like this: when the thing gets harmful, it should be done and over with.

My advice is, if you really value your gf/relationship and don't know how to navigate through this type of dilemma, then seek a professional opinion. Public internet forums are the LAST place you should be looking for this type of advice, PERIOD!!!

Figure out what you want, talk to her about what she wants, and take it from there. If you can't solve your problems by talking, you sure as hell won't solve them by playing games with each other.

Of course it is very hard to judge such a subtle thing with a few forum posts, but I must admit, it sounds like a red flag to me...
If at any point my girl felt comfortable casually implying, let alone directly saying, 'Your passion is dumb and I think I can tell you to stop.', the level of disrespect and betrayal I could feel would instantly transcend any male/female equality issues and it would just be me telling another human to go f**k themselves. And then it would just sort itself out, one way or the other.
Some of you are sensitive to the 'toss the twat!' remarks maybe, but maybe those people have not experienced a controlling selfish woman who quietly assumes she is the boss, and is pushing boundaries. Ive been an artist my whole life and had relationships interface really well with that, and really horribly. Imo just the tone of the tale here sounds bad.
) but I think that just the existence of the thread is a sign that its not trending towards the direct/adult/logical/compromise territory, and there is already an adversarial thing going on.

For sure, that is the basis OP should be starting from. This is a problem, and it needs a solution. And yea, the 'figure out what you want' seems to be downplayed in this thread. I mean, yea, guys; For normal people facing this conflict, a woman can easily be the more sensible thing to keep around over the next synth...nineofkings wrote:This.sjm wrote:Whatever you do, ignore the advice in this thread that amounts to playing childish games. If she manages to destroy your desire to be creative, she could destroy you as a man, does she really want that??? Women tend to find a fuller satisfaction in nurture, hence the animals, men need something different. Regardless to how much money it makes or how good it sounds, take it away and what is left would turn into a sorry state of depression. We are highly creative beings, the West has us hooked on consumerism but it cannot fill the void.
Edit: but if you're not pulling your weight, you just as bad as a bum sat drinking beer watching football all day.

No, it's really actually not based on genetics.fluffy_little_something wrote:I think women in general are more into living beings than machines, unlike men. Different priorities, probably based on genetics.

I've experienced it. I just think that we don't know the whole story. We only know what the OP has said, from his perspective. While I agree about red flags being present, I think it's best to presume as little as possible about the relationship and just advise him on working at the problems. "Ditch the twat" styled crap just oozes projection to me. There're plenty ways to advise leaving an unhealthy relationship without declaring one party to be worthless.highkoo wrote:Some of you are sensitive to the 'toss the twat!' remarks maybe, but maybe those people have not experienced a controlling selfish woman who quietly assumes she is the boss, and is pushing boundaries.

Agreed. Still, the OP has the option of choosing how he approaches it. I hope he takes the calm and rational approach.highkoo wrote:but I think that just the existence of the thread is a sign that its not trending towards the direct/adult/logical/compromise territory, and there is already an adversarial thing going on.

Not really. That's equivocation. This situation isn't about a girl neglecting her boyfriend. We don't know enough. We have limited details, from only one party. The bad advice is still bad regardless of the gender arrangement.Robmobius wrote:I think everyone would say the same thing if it was a bloke who was neglecting his girlfriend.IncarnateX wrote:It's getting worse and worseReally hope the male chauvinist are joking.
I would be hard on a bloke neglecting his girlfriend, but I wouldn't just jump to conclusions. I wouldn't tell the girlfriend to "dump the twat" without knowing a lot more. There is safer and more constructive advise to give, rather than just dismissing the value of one person over the other.

Well, I would say the same thing as I'm not sexist and a feminist. Man, woman or alien I'd say the same thing...Jace-BeOS wrote:Not really. That's equivocation. Of course we don't know the full story... This is just all just internet nonsense. So given the 'half-facts' people are just chewing the fat from the information provided. On the surface she (he or it) seems to be selfish. So get rid of them, if it 'aint working.
The best advice given here so far, is not to listen to anyone here about psychological advice.

Helping her with the cooking seems like a good idea. You could also do the hoovering one day a week. I'd draw the line and washing though.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

My girlfriend hates how this 'My girlfriend hates my music making' thread is still being updated with the nonsense witterings of socially inept geeks arguing and projecting their own emotional baggage for the mistaken benefit of an OP who left this thread a few days ago.
(She's also rather displeased at my own two 'contributions' to this thread).
My girlfriend thinks that the OP's problems have been resolved one way or another by now, if he's been man enough to deal with them by having 'the conversation' with his missus.
She was rather amused at his belief that random computer music nerds would somehow be able to fix this for him.
FWIW, she hates my love-making and prefers spending time with her rabbit (though strangely I've never seen her feeding it with any lettuce).
