[REAPER] SOLO button, are other DAWs working the same?

I'm finding it very non-intuitive, that clicking SOLO does not un-solo other tracks, so it's "additive".
Is this behaviour kinda standard in the DAW world?

Can it be customized? (Tried but didn't find the right option) :
Clicking solo w/o modifiers should be exclusive-solo, clicking solo with shift should be normal-solo (additive).

If it's not possible, it would be a good feature request, to be able to choose the default solo behaviour...

Most I recall have this additive style as default.Chris-S wrote: Is this behaviour kinda standard in the DAW world?
Some have Alt click to do exclusive.
And some exclude a track from normal solo behavior, like for an effect buss you don't want to follow to get effects through if holding Ctrl click. On others you hold solo button a sec or two, and it marks track for solo defeat thingy.
Since there is no standard what you call things, it seems, it's a bit hard to find not reading manual from front to back.

One could make a custom action with these actions and assign it to a keyboard shortcut and/or put it as a mouse modifier command for example in the "track control panel" section.
Track: Select track under mouse
Script: X-Raym_Solo exclusive selected tracks.eel
X-Raym script can be found in the Reapack
otherwise, you probably have found that Ctrl-Alt is exclusive solo.

Reaper has a few solo modes. Clicking the solo button will activate solo in place, which solos a track without affecting the solo status of other tracks. Alt+ctrl+click activates exclusive solo, which solos only the selected tracks and does affect the solo status of other soloed tracks.
Also, right-clicking the solo button shows Reaper's solo modes. Right-click menus are a very common thing in Reaper.

No, solo button not soloing is not standard, it's dumb.Chris-S wrote:I'm finding it very non-intuitive, that clicking SOLO does not un-solo other tracks, so it's "additive".

Forgetting to un-solo what you don't want to hear solo is just dumb.

Any mixers I've ever seen (hardware) didn't have exclusive solo by default. So who's non-standard or dumb here, now?.jon wrote:No, solo button not soloing is not standard, it's dumb.Chris-S wrote:I'm finding it very non-intuitive, that clicking SOLO does not un-solo other tracks, so it's "additive".

They didn't have many other useful features found on DAWs either. Did you have a point or just wanted to make a fool out of yourself?EvilDragon wrote:Any mixers I've ever seen (hardware) didn't have exclusive solo by default. I am of the same opinion. I solo multiple tracks regularly and all the hosts I tried (true, there were not many of them) behaved the same by default. So for me the "additive solo behavior" is the standard and expected way.chk071 wrote:I haven't seen any daw which doesn't do it that way. I don't think it's dumb, on the contrary, it would be quite tedious if it wasn't that way.

It's standard for hardware mixers. Pressing a solo button does not release the other pressed solo buttons, because the mixer man wants to hear the channels where he pressed the solo button without the other ones.Chris-S wrote:I'm finding it very non-intuitive, that clicking SOLO does not un-solo other tracks, so it's "additive".

Yes, its standard. Other solo behaviour is usually a mode change from that (ie you need to do something else as well as hit the solo button)Chris-S wrote:Is this behaviour kinda standard in the DAW world?
An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

No. It's that in hardware mixers because it's technically complicated to implement in any other way. In software there's no such limitations, and you'll find that it's simply more practical for solo button to actually solo the clicked channel, and modifier+click add more tracks if you wish.WOK wrote:It's standard for hardware mixers. Elegant solution is to provide both modes as preference. Curiously almost everything in Reaper can be bind to a shortcut customised, but the only way to solo a track is ctrl-alt-click in the GUI, and not even these modifier keys can be configured while all other keys can be.
