We are ...

... passing through the darkest season – the nights are the longest nights
of the year now. Fitting to this gloomy Christmas time we recorded our
song “we are the voices of the past“. The idea for this song struck us
when we were visiting the “Dom of Ratzeburg“ in this October.

The "Dom of Ratzeburg" ...

... is an old cathedral, which was built in the year 1154! It is
one of the oldest cathedrals that still exist. The special Romanic style
is characterized by its tight narrowness and darkness giving a morbid
grim spirituality. You have the feeling that every brick reveals a glance
at the time of the middle age in the 12th century. Poverty, misery,
superstition, clerical striving for power and scholastic mythical
muttering are looking down at you between the vaults, arches and
bays of the cathedral.

In our song "we are the voices of the past" we revive this spirit which
is floating through the ancient walls since 800 years. We let rise up
our ancestors: All these fates of toil, love and suffering in the past
centuries occupy our mind for a moment. The dark corridors and
vaults breathe the spirit of centuries and in our song the figures of
past generations stride lively through the rows of seats.

That's pretty ambitious, with the large scale composition and the video. I'll assume you didn't actually use the organ of the Dom?

Haha, for reasons of "authenticity" we recorded the organ part
with a two-track recorder in the "Dom of Ratzeburg".

But this recording wasn't good enough. Too much reverb - some
steps and other noise. So we repeated the recording, not in
the "Dom of Ratzeburg", but in a church nearby our studio.
This second record was dry and clean - but it had insufficient
bass and power. So we had to go for a third recording time until it
sounded as we wanted it to be.

In the end: There is a part of the organ of the "Dom of Ratzeburg"
mixed in, but most of what you hear is another organ (Trinitatis
Church Altona).

But it's crucial to confirm: What you see as "video" are all pictures
of the "Dom of Ratzeburg" and the famous neighbouring "Kreuzgang".
