Anyone jumped ship / switched DAW this year?

Not this year. Still using Cubase 8.5 (with a view to upgrade to 9 once holiday finances recover) and DP9. I like each for different purposes, so it'd be hard to just go one way or the other at the moment.

Am tooling up a new studio rig and using all Presonus hardware.
In Las Vegas the floors of the hotels always slope downwards towards the casinos to tempt those careless feet to lead you to your doom. Presonus hardware does the same with Studio One. I'm tracking in Reaper and mix/finalising in an older version of Samplitude. So it looks like it's "back of the line Reaper" as I get the Artists Studio One version free with all the goodies.
The big question is, do I go all the way to S1 Pro or do I go Sam X3? Or, as I always use two DAWs, should I do both?
Choices. Choices.

My choices are Sonar Platinum, Studio One or FL Studio.
Recently someone here at KVR got me to add Samplitude to my list since ARA is an important feature for me.
I prefer a one and only DAW but will settle for a MAIN DAW with one or two other DAW's to pick up the slack.

Samplitude X2 is a fantastic DAW. Samplitude X3 COULD be an even better one if only they fixed the numerous bugs that afflict it. Wait for a stable version and go Samplitude.
I used S1 for a couple years and sold it. Workflow wise it is amazing (and I sure wish all DAWs had its audio stretching facilites and meterbridge), BUT. I don't like that presonus is going all Apple and is creating a closed ecosystem. Also. No score editor. And yes I have Notion and the "integration" is clumsy

There's definitely a two DAW method - you use one for creative/tracking and the other for mixing/mastering. It seperates the two processes in the same way paying for a studio used to. You're in, you shake it all about and you're out with the tracks. Then you mix at a desk with a much lower hourly rate. I suffered for too long with composing as you track as you mix as you master. Takes about forty times longer to get the job done.Kalamata Kid wrote:HanafiH wrote: I prefer a one and only DAW but will settle for a MAIN DAW with one or two other DAW's to pick up the slack.
Reaper has been very good. Reaper is fun.
Samplitude is good because you can wave edit, spectral edit right there ITB without jumping out to WAvelab or whatever. A very precise humorless DAW with excellent everything but particularly the metering. I can see why MEs like it so much.
Studio One looks fun. Well colourful anyway.

I did EXACTLY the same thing and I can assure you that I have not stopped regretting the doom since.HanafiH wrote:Am tooling up a new studio rig and using all Presonus hardware.

My own post Studio One v3 blues currently has me quite busy DAW hopping. You know, just like those lovelies in Vegas are so famous for, only their game is the nearest bed. Bitch feeling like you've been pimped. Hard.
Studio One v3 is an ill efficient CPU nightmare. It's virtually impossible to use high quality 64bit VSTis improvisationally without it's performance monitor looking like a Christmas Tree on steroids. You don't even have to use the Play VSTi. Just loading it causes S1v3 to freak out.
At this point, all my research points at Reaper.
So much for my brand new Firestudio Project, Studio Live 16.0.2 & Studio One v3 pro set up. Shame on you & me Presonus.

There is not much of a difference (if any) with "high quality" 64-bit VSTi's on my system between S1 3 and Cubase Artist 8.5. If your performance meter even freaks out when you only LOAD the VSTi's, then there''s gotta be something weird with your system.

I discovered Mainstage. Not so much a DAW as a complementary way of using the plugs I have... more a focus on realtime messing around, with a record button always ready. Being unshackled from a master tempo is possibly what made the biggest difference.

Yep, that's precisely why I'm roughly the 10th person today to post about the S1v horrific CPU ill efficiency issue, right? Lets see a screen shot of your S1v3 with the Play VSTi (EastWest Quantum Leap) Ministry of Rock, Silk, Ra, or any other decent sample library utilizing Play, or any Spectrasonics virtual instrument loaded up along with a shot of S1v3 CPU monitor on whatever system you like. My system works flawlessly with Live Suite 8, as well as Reaper. It works flawlessly with heavily loaded NI standalone apps. What could possibly be wrong with a system that does NOT encounter any performance issues except when using S1v3?
Honestly, S1v3 has problems with multis of it's own proprietary instruments.
Say what you like, S1v3 is a CPU hog and that's all there is to it. Until it's fixed it's useless apart from light weight projects using huge buffer blocks which encourage tremendous latency.
I'd be willing to bet very good money that no single DAW has motivated more "jump ship" DAW changes than S1v3 in 2016.

Mh, ok. So you basically say that i'm telling you bullshit, just because the experience on your system differs to mine. Well, i wouldn't know why to continue this discussion then. Mr. 1st post rant.

I have to admit that S1 experience is the same for me, under all other DAWs. And it's a pity, it has a great workflow and a lot of things offered for the price it was sold in the past months.
Hope they'll manage to sort it out before charging us for an update.

Dude, don't waste you time with the nay-sayers. It's totally useless. No matter what facts you give you'll get nonsense.QuantumMusicality wrote:Yep, that's precisely why I'm roughly the 10th person today to post about the S1v horrific CPU ill efficiency issue, right? Or maybe just different experiences on different systems. If you are able to accept that. I wonder though how you can get a CPU overload while LOADING plugins. No matter which DAW, i never had something like that. Although i surely don't watch the CPU meter the whole time when loading plugins (what would be the point of that anyway?).
