That snare is great! Can you give a tutorial or share the preset file please?

Sometimes Synth1 honored automation, sometimes it didn’t. :-? I'm on a MAC, so I only used the 2 working filter modes. All sounds from that initial BraString one, no presets used. I haven't check this mix on my monitors since I'm out of town. I may re-upload if get home in time.

Another Tracktion 5 user. Cheers Mate. I like it.

Yeah, it's pretty good considering that it's free. I have only one problem with it - snapping to the grid doesn't do what it's supposed to do. If I want to snap a note to the grid line, it moves past it. But otherwise, it's a good DAW.

Hi folks,

With having some time off work over the festive and the allure of being able to use commercial plugins I decided to have a go at my first OSC. It's been a real interesting learning process and I did try to cut down on the number of commercial plugs I was using... which was a good experience in having to work harder to achieve certain sounds but I ran out of time to completely replace them all (especially for the rhythms which I did struggle with). It was also really good in that I rediscovered the Tokyo Dawn Labs plugins - I must have missed when they release 64bit version so really pleased to be using them again.

Anyway here is the track (hope I've set it up correctly to allow downloads):

https://soundcloud.com/jeye_musik/jeye_ ... lism-osc94

Track info:

DAW - Live 9

18 instances of Synth 1

Plugins used:

Valhalla Vintage Verb
Valhalla Room
NI Replika
Spaceship Delay from KVR Dev Challenge 16
Live's EQ8
Eventide Ultrachannel
TDR VOS Slick EQ
Soundtoys Radiator
Soundtoys SieQ

Mastering:

TDR VOS Slick EQ -> TDR Kotelnikov

Lastly, I've really enjoyed reading the discussions about how people have been approaching it and the approach for OSC in general (spent a fair bit of time early in the month just listening to and reading from previous OSCs) - I am intrigued ideas of how the tools inform the process and how much that matters. Maybe at some point in the future I'll revisit the song with my usual commercial plugins for an ITB comparator and then again using my normal hybrid OTB/ITB approach just to see how the 3 versions compare.... though probably I'll never get the time....

Looking forward to listening to everyone else's contributions now!

John

Here's mine, embarrassingly cheery, but I had fun trying to make holiday sorts of sounds.

https://soundcloud.com/opoint/beforetheyknew

Synth1 VST64 {39}
Ableton 9 - native plugs used,
Auto Filter, Compressor, EQ Eight, EQ Three, Gate, Limiter, Multiband Dynamics, Reverb, Simple Delay, Spectrum, Utility.

I was going to post a max device I've been working on for awhile as a holiday gift for all you Ableton users out there but it needs a bit more work. It's a Synth1 XY preset interpolation patch. Runs like butter, using "dictionary" instead of pattrstorage helps prevent Ableton's undo history from exploding, which I suspect is the main issue with stability in max4live.
The only thing I haven't added is stepped param control to prevent it scrolling through stuff you don't want it to.
I'll probably post it somewhere around here, pm me maybe if you are interested.

Probably be my last contest, too much drama and conspiracy going on, I just like a good challenge to figure stuff out. The competition thing kinda turns me off. The challenge turned me on, hehe ooh yeah baby that's right. Anyways it's been fun.

Happy holidays everyone, and have a great new year.
