I purchased Cubase Elements a while ago not realising it doesn't natively support sidechaining, does anyone know of any free or commercial compression vst effects which provide a suitable workaround, Any info much appreciated I like the software alot and would immediately update to 9 if I can find a good workaround.

As far as i know, even when you get a compressor with sidechain input, due to the lack of routing in that regard in Cubase Elements, you won't be able to use the sidechain input anyway. The only possible solution (which won't really give you the same functionality than sidechaining though, because you can't trigger it with a sidechain signal, it's simply just a volume automation) is using something like Cableguy's VolumeShaper, or Xfer LFO tool. Actually, that's one of the few reasons i gave up on Elements. And even in the higher versions of Cubase, the compressor has to be VST3 to use sidechaining. It's really a bit of a pain in Cubase, compared to other hosts. Sidechaining is absolutely easy peasy in Studio One, for example.

This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here? :D ShawnG

I used an old free sidekick with Elements 6 some years ago. It worked really good, but now they have sidekick 6 (as in Zexila's post). Try the demo but read how to configure it first (you need to insert two instances and then connect them together to be able to sidechain).

I don't think the free version is available anymore, but the 6th version is priced reasonably IMO (35 euro).
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Bitwig 5, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Tal Filter

TAL-Filter-2 is a host synced filter module with different filter types, panorama and volume modulation possibilities. The device includes all 4x oversampled TAL-NoiseMaker filters: LP 24 dB, LP 18dB, LP 12dB, LP 6dB, HP 12 dB, BP 12dB, N 12 dB. Its possible to saturate / distort the input signal by raising the input volume with the input control (only if you use a filter as modulation type).
Its also possible to modulate the panorama or volume of an incoming signal. This can be used for tremolo or trance gate effects. Panorama modulation maybe is useful to pan your percussion, hats or sound effects in the stereo room for more interesting rythms and sounds.

3. swap l/r channel on second
4. pan each bus to l/r

only 32 bit
seems also PowerPPC only for macs
