Hi wagtunes. From an older review of Sonic Implants Symphonic Collection:
I find it very strange that Sonic Implants is not more popular than it is because
it's the library that comes closest to the studio sound or sound stage that we hear so often. They nailed it as far as I'm concern. I'm not expert but it's really close.

I have to agree to a certain degree that many of the demos were not that impressive at first and i think a lot of that has to do with us comparing it with those big bombastic trillerish demos EW has. But it's a mistake and i would recommend Sonic Implants over EW any day of the week for tow reasons: playability(MUCH better than EW), and because it's been recorded in a much smaller hall, it is much more versatile than EW in that regard as you can add your own reverb and make it sound big or intimate. Which is something you cant do with EW even though they have close mic samples it was recorded in this huge hall and you're kind of stuck with it.

So, I think that it fits your needs.

Second time download was ok. Installed. Both times the download was interrupted a number of times.

What I'm talking about is the $68 upgrade for all that stuff. I went through the table of contents and the first thing I asked myself was "What's the catch?"

So what's the deal with this $68 upgrade? Are we only getting this because it's all old stuff and they figure "Eh, what the heck, let's sell it for next to nothing and whatever we make from it is gravy" or is this stuff really bad?
Sonivox has always been rather poor quality. They have some pretty horrible products like Twist and Wobble.

Only interesting product they have is Vocalizer Pro. But that plastic-y looking interface is a turnoff.

I remember demoing the cinematic suite when it first came out, i was ultimately put off by the Sonivox instruments themselves rather than the actual quality of the sounds. Actually i recall them being quite good sound-wise, considering the age. If only they would work as Kontakt instruments instead.

On that note has anyone tried making a Kontakt interface for this? I seem to recall the samples being wavs so surely it can't be too difficult to make a Kontakt version? I'd have a go myself but I have no knowledge or experience in such things.

For a quid, i may as well buy it anyway, last minute thing and all that.

I came to ask the same question. For one, that would mean we didn't need ILOK running in the backround and secondly, the 9 GB-size (which sounds like wavs) could be reduced by compressing the samples to Kontakt's NCW-format.

Perhaps some Kontakt-wizard could even improve the product via a few script-tricks in Kontakt, like implementing working modwheel dynamics.*

Though I'm not sure if all of this would be prohibited by SoniVox.

Rendering an unwanted copy protection obsolete? Probably not, if SoniVox has made the sample-folder accessible themselves in wav-format, making it possible to import the samples to other samplers.

*But... distributing a (free) NKI-instrument of the product (without samples ofc)? I don't think this would be ok, but I'm not sure.

Well, 3 days later, I still haven't heard back from Sonivox on the issue I'm having with a supposedly active license that emits white noise every minute or so.

Like I said, you get what you pay for.

Thankful it was only $1 because I am never buying anything from this company ever again. Glad I didn't go for the upgrade.

Well, it's 3 days after New Years and I put in a support ticket days ago. No need to recontact you. You have the ticket. Or at least you should. Simply respond to it. It's not that complicated. If you're stumped as to what's causing the issue, that's fine. it's only $1.

In short, I followed the install instructions to the letter. My iLok shows an active license for the product. But when I pull it up in my DAW, every minute or so, the audio drops out and I get white noise.

That's it. Nothing complicated. Either you have a solution or you don't. If not, like I said, no big deal, it's only $1.

Well, just for the heck of it, I brought the VST back up into my DAW to demonstrate and make a video of the problem to send to you and now I can't reproduce it. Suddenly, for whatever reason, it has cleared up. I have no explanation. It didn't work after initial install. The only thing I can think of is that there was an iLok problem. I have had them before but usually after a reboot, they clear up. This time, it didn't. Well, it did now.

I will keep an eye on it. If it should happen again, I will record the problem (audio and video) and send it to you.

But this is why I and lot of other people don't love using iLok. There are too many problems with it. One program I have actually attempts to shut down my whole PC when I try to switch from one project to another. Yes, it's also an iLok based VST.

Don't know what it is about iLok but it and Wavescentral give me more problems than anything else.

Sorry for the frustration, I would ask you please try to work with me to enable me to help.

As a predominantly EU based company our office was closed Monday where the first business day after a major holiday is typically a replacement holiday if the holiday falls on the weekend. Without your contact details it can be tricky to locate your query.

My purpose here is to provide outreach from Development, I personally can't see your full ticket without a way to look it up.

If you would prefer to work with Support they will get back to you as soon as possible.
Sorry again for the delay, Im sure you agree time off with Family is important :)

The plugins have no limitation of Audio Drop outs programmed in instead we use the Ilok service to manage access. Its simply the case that you can run it or you cant.

We don't believe that introducing limitations is a fair way to allow people to demo the software. However this could be something that your DAW is introducing if it is no longer licensed. This can be a common limitation of a popular DAWS.

If you are able to send me any details It would be greatly appreciated, if only your email so I can ask support to prioritize.

Cheers!

I personally don't think this would be iLok related as this isnt the way the service works it doesn't affect the audio in anyway, let us know if you see any further issues.

I'm sorry for my frustration as well. As you can see from the above, the problem has mysteriously cleared it. I suspect it was an iLok issue or it could have also been a DAW limitation. I am not using my regular DAW at the moment because one plugin I am running keeps crashing it. it's a known issue that they currently don't have a fix for.

However, I ran into another problem just now. In switching from Ensemble to Violins, my keyboard locked up and I had to close my DAW and restart it. Again, this could be DAW related or it could be, like the known issue I am having with the other VST, a conflict between Sonivox and this particular DAW. The only way for me to know for certain is to test with multiple hosts. Not something I relish doing but will do if it will help you isolate the problem on your end if it is in fact on your end.

In short, the general incompatibilities between VSTs and DAWs on the whole is frustrating. For every VST that works flawlessly, there is one that has its quirks. For the most part, I've learned to live with this because, as a programmer myself, I understand that it's close to impossible to design something that's going to work perfectly with every OS, every DAW and every possible configuration out there. As much as I loved AIR Loom (I'm sure you remember the issue I had) it so wrecked my DAW upon install and running that I had to reinstall my DAW. This was when you first came out with, I think it was 7.0. So it's quite possible it was an early bug in development. I get that these things happen. They don't make them any easier to handle.

Anyway, I will keep an eye on things and if I can duplicate any particular problem consistently, I will report it with as much detail as I can so you can find it on your end.

FTR, I like the way this thing sounds now that I've got it working. If it continues to work (you just don't know with this stuff) it will be a dollar well spent.

Hope your New Year is a good one.

I never have issues with ILok plugins, maybe I am just lucky.

I normally don't either. There were only 2 that gave me any serious problems.
