problem: Zebra sending midi to folder track in Reaper

Hey!
I have issue with seemingly only Zebra.
Problem happens when Zebra is inside a folder in Reaper, and I have plugin in folder track that does something with midi notes. I first noticed this problem when demoing Stutter Edit. Even if nothing is armed for recording, Zebra will read the recorded midi and send it to the folder track and controls whatever is on there ( tried also with kontakt ).
Work around is to leave zebras outside of the folder, and send only audio to track where the stutter edit is, but for poly synth sounds I use Zebra exclusively..
Can this be fixed with update or any other way?

Hmmm, our stuff isn't sending MIDI anywhere. It's actually one of the long standing feature requests we never implemented.
I'm not sure what a "folder" is in Reaper lingo. Our Reaper expert is on vacation till next week, if you send us an email to support at u-he dot com he'll have a look when he's back (in case this topic vanishes beforehand)

A folder is like a bus for all the tracks that it contains, plus it also acts as an organizing and grouping tool (say you want to relatively adjust volumes and/or pans for all of the tracks, you'd use a folder very likely).
OP, would be nice to post an example Reaper project, for sure. If you can replicate the issue with just Zebra loaded and some JS FX, that'd be great.

I dont use Reaper, but it sounds like its Reaper's behaviour, and that you need to change its MIDI routing.
From what I understand, in Reaper, the audio output of tracks in a folder get sent to the parent folder. Assuming MIDI is consistent with that (and for anity, I guess it should be) then you need to disable that.

An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

Hi,
I can confirm, that all midi is sent to the FOLDER track.
In the routing I can't find an option to stop this (hard wired?).
Workaround: Put a plugin like "JS midi eater" at the end of the sending tracks FX or at the start of the FOLDER fx chain.
"JS midi eater" was part of Reaper V4, was removed in V5.
EDIT: In V5 you can use "JS Midi Note filter" instead. Put Low/Hi note to zero.

Hey!
Thanks for responses!
Chris-S, I couldn't either. Oh nice tip, I'll try! Sounds better than how I'm currently doing.
EvilDragon, I'll post in a bit! Should be possible with two instances of Zebra.
I think that the folder track didn't even show that its recieving midi, but the plugin was definately recieving midi! I'll confirm this when I get to do example reaper project.

If you don't want a child track to send its MIDI to the parent track, there's no default option or so, but you can use a simple workaround. Stop the child track from sending anything to the parent track, then create an audio-only send.
The easiest way of implementing this:
1) create a folder track, place a child track inside it
2) click the I/O button of the child track while holding down the Alt/Option key (Mac) on your keyboard; the Win key is probably Ctrl.
--> this will remove the default "Master Send" routing which sends anything from the track to its parent/folder
3) drag the I/O button of the child track and drop it somewhere onto the parent/folder track
--> this will open the send options dialog
4) in the send options dialog, change the MIDI send options in the lower right corner from [All] -> [All] to [None] -> [All]
--> this will stop any MIDI from being sent from the child track to the parent track
If you NEVER want to send MIDI between tracks then you can skip step 4) by going into preferences and disabling this option:
Project > Track Send Defaults > Sends / Track Hardware Outputs > [] Sends send MIDI by default
If you NEVER want child tracks to send to their parent/folder tracks, then you can go into preferences and disable this option:
Project > Track Send Defaults > Tracks > [] Main (parent) send

If you have the SWS extension installed, then you can search for the "send default" actions in the action browser and create keyboard shortcuts or toolbar buttons to set this behaviour on a track-to-track basis, maybe even all at once if multiple are selected. (Haven't tested)
