Bazille - most misunderstood synth?

You can adjust the slopes by modulating the envelope with it's own output. Positive modulation for log curve, negative modulation for expo curve (I think?). With some clever use of the gate output, and a multiplexer, you can do one curve for the attack/decay and a different curve for release. That's a trivial use for a multiplexer though, when they are so useful for other stuff.
I often find combining two or more envelopes/ramps with a multiplexer is a nice way to get more complex envelopes. It requires a bit more consideration, then using a true multisegment envelope but you can still do some interesting things. I really wish that Bazille had some analog logic functions like the Doepfer A172 or the OR output on Make Noise' Maths. It's a really nice way to get more complex modulations from two or more simpler sources, without having the total amplitude go above and of the level of any of the original sources.

Agreed, but I think that U/I matters a lot. OTOneH, it seems a bit out of place to have a modern EG UI on Bazille, but then, OTOtherH, it already has the mapping generator. I don;'t find FM8's envelopes tedious.
I will say though, that Bazille is an interesting "instrument" in its own right and as much as I want some features to be there, I wouldn't want them to compromise the feel of it as an instrument. So, making the envelopes more powerful, but also more tedious, might not be a win.
That said, I'm still pretty damn certain that including the Obie filter from Diva as an alternative to one of the existing filters is absolutely a win.

Yeah, I have also experimented with these kind of manipulations. You can only adjust the slopes of ALL of the parameters though. What I also find is that using more than one EG, while powerful uses up your EGs and then I wish that it had more. Shaping the individual EG curves for fast percussive sounds has a dramatic impact on timbre. I would even give up some of the modulation capabilities to have this as an option. I would love to see Diva like module selection on the EGs where you could select a traditional Bazille EG, or, a modern multisegment EG with minimal modulation inputs but detailed control over the EG shape.justin3am wrote:You can adjust the slopes by modulating the envelope with it's own output. While that's happening, why not go ahead and offer the same choice for the filters.
In any case, that "bit more consideration" ends up being both the charm and the bane of Bazille. It's very powerful in its flexibility, but at the same time, I sometimes find it tedious to get specific sounds and reach for something like FM8 instead. Then, of course, FM8 leaves me wanting more with its impotent filter.

u-he manuals could never hope to cover the possibilities offered by Bazille, but they are the perfect springboard to experimentation. That's the attraction for me - a little mystery and the joy of (guided) happy accidents.

Anyone who hasn't should head over and buy Kyhon's soundset for Bazille. Pretty crazy. I have no affiliation, just love the set.

Kyhon I am having lots and lots of fun tweaking your OPN1MW111111 patch.
The Mapping Generator on Map Smooth is really special.

With the long weekend, I 've taken some time with BazilleCMstimresp wrote:u-he manuals could never hope to cover the possibilities offered by Bazille, but they are the perfect springboard to experimentation. That's the attraction for me - a little mystery and the joy of (guided) happy accidents.
and the manual. I pick a nice complex Bazille preset that loads
(at least in part) in the CM version, and begin by disconnecting
a cable, noting the difference made, and referring to the manual
for the why and how parts. Then changing the sound source,
and finding ways to get it moving. It's actually quite sensible
at the basic level, and as you say, there are plenty of
mysteries and experiments to fill the new year.
I've actually distilled some very cheery sounds,
as well as some daft well tangled efforts that
were barely different in sound than the single cable init
(back to the manual often!) Gots ta start somewhere,
long weekends are perfect. Thanks U-he for the CM version.
Have a happy and prosperous 2017, and then emulate it in the future!
Cheers

I've also been digging back into Bazille (and Beatzille), but I stared from the other end - building up from an initialised patch. Just too lazy to dissect presets I suppose.
Happy new year!

MiniSyn'X has the Ring Mod/Laser Harp sound nailed. You can also export it out and import it into Syn'X 2.egbert101 wrote:The OP-X PRO II version is doing something weird with the portamento, so I turned it off (as well as the silly reverb), and it sounds a bit closer. It's definitely not identical, but still impressive nonetheless.fmr wrote:here is the sound of the original in all its glory:
EDIT: Also turning the filter Decay makes it sound better.
Oh well, my ears are tired, blame the guy who did the patch
Also ACE's own preset is pretty spot on.

in the beginning when it first came out, i played with it a bit when it was a public beta. i got a reduced version of it later but i never reach for it because although it is fun, i find it really hard to get the sound i want with it. probably more fun for someone with more time on their hands who wants to fiddle for hours until they arrive at a sound they like. but i couldn't use it as a composition tool that plays well with other components in a piece. i try every synth i can get my hands on in order to see if i can create a bass patch, and if i can't get a perfect result in under a minute, i probably won't reach for it first the next time. I haven't had much luck dialing up good bass patches on u-he synths for whatever reason. blaukraut's charlatan vsti however, i get exactly what i want in moments.

Did you try A.C.E, Hive, Zebra2 and Repro-1??overhishead wrote:in the beginning when it first came out, i played with it a bit when it was a public beta. i got a reduced version of it later but i never reach for it because although it is fun, i find it really hard to get the sound i want with it. probably more fun for someone with more time on their hands who wants to fiddle for hours until they arrive at a sound they like. but i couldn't use it as a composition tool that plays well with other components in a piece. i try every synth i can get my hands on in order to see if i can create a bass patch, and if i can't get a perfect result in under a minute, i probably won't reach for it first the next time. At the risk of coming across as a bit condescending, I'd say that you are dealing with either issues of taste or skill. Bazille and Ace are both bass monsters.overhishead wrote:in the beginning when it first came out, i played with it a bit when it was a public beta. i got a reduced version of it later but i never reach for it because although it is fun, i find it really hard to get the sound i want with it. probably more fun for someone with more time on their hands who wants to fiddle for hours until they arrive at a sound they like. but i couldn't use it as a composition tool that plays well with other components in a piece. i try every synth i can get my hands on in order to see if i can create a bass patch, and if i can't get a perfect result in under a minute, i probably won't reach for it first the next time. Is it possible to drag multiple cables from the same place in bazille/beatzille? Also are there any hidden tricks to further modulate or do something to a signal besides patching the cables?

1st question; yesmrj1nx wrote:Is it possible to drag multiple cables from the same place in bazille/beatzille? Also are there any hidden tricks to further modulate or do something to a signal besides patching the cables?
2nd question; youtube, manual

Is the P5 going to be a Diva module or its own plugin?Urs wrote:William works on P5, Jan will join in after holidays, Sascha works on drum thing, Basti and myself on Z2.8, new dev starts Patch Browser revision in January. We'll decide when it's ready. Most likely scenario is a Repro-5, somehow entangled with Repro-1. For Diva I'm hoping to take the filter further and embed it in the circuitry of the Synthex filter.rosschehayeb wrote:Is the P5 going to be a Diva module or its own plugin?Urs wrote:William works on P5, Jan will join in after holidays, Sascha works on drum thing, Basti and myself on Z2.8, new dev starts Patch Browser revision in January.
