That's good, that describes the tone of the background noise very well. Not super flattering sounding, but that doesn't worry me

Welp, now things are becoming interesting.

Up until just yesterday, we had what I think were pretty legit results. The top entries were 'Not Just Another Dither', 'Dither Me Timbers', and bringing up a strong third, 'Ninja Dither'.

Then, all of a sudden, out of nowhere, 'ZN-Dither (Zero Noise Dither)' wins by a landslide, at more than three times the votes of Ninja, formerly the third place entry.

Not entirely sure what to do about this, but we're not in Kansas anymore if anyone can direct me to the sudden hordes of plugin users that turned up, I'd like to sign 'em up to my Patreon. I'll be set for life

More seriously, if we must cheat, can I have 'Dither Me Timbers' for a winner? I actually enjoyed that one best, and 'Zero Noise' is in fact a lie, which would make me sad to use. It really is not zero noise, honest it isn't.

On GS I enclosed a snapshot
which I think shows everything roughly before we get silly with extended vote technology… probably only Zero Noise is wildly different from what a boring old vote would have been. I remember it was always NJAD and Timbers up there at the top, and Ninja was also legit, moved up steadily.

This is your naming contest, I'd hoped to represent the wishes of a bunch of people. It looks a bit like one of the suggestions has zoomed out of nowhere, and I'm not sure it represents people, or just like one really determined person

HA! I didn't notice it was the initials of a psychedelic until you mentioned it. I actually don't use anymore, but if anything describes what this thing does, 'DMT' describes it.

I guess I would get to pick, wouldn't I? They only specify ZN. In a sense it isn't a lie, as there is no noise SOURCE in there. But it doesn't produce zero noise on the output.

Maybe I could call NJAD, 'Nachos, Another Dither'!

I will stop counting at midnight EST, tonight, and then we'll see. I guess both normal people and hacky people really want to see this named Not Just Another Dither. If so, who am I to judge?

Here's what we're gonna do. I am coding away (but may not have stuff until later in the day)

As of 2/1/17 the winner is Not Just Another Dither! This is legit. That answer has always led the poll, and continued to do so throughout, up to the end.

Since my plugins don't try to stick whitespace into the names, the technical name is NotJustAnotherDither.

Which would make the (yes!) 16 bit version, NotJustAnotherCD

And truly they will be not just CDs, because with a bit of care and attention you'll think you're listening to 24 bit HD audio off any old CD player. So all in all, I am satisfied with the results. I think there's a populist aspect here where a bunch of different people just wanted the world to know, 'Hey, this is not just your usual thing, this is a big deal'. And so it shall be.

I'll see if I can get this together before I sleep, and I won't have a video up Wednesday, but I will have the plugins out. Bear with me.

The votes are in, and the Internet has spoken. We've got a name for the new noise shaping variant on Naturalize (seen in ) after a January of wild suggestions. Seems most people simply wanted to emphasize that this was not your ordinary dither, not your daddy's TPDF.

It's 1:09 AM and I've just got the plugins built. No time to make a video. I'll follow up with a proper product announcement and a video demonstrating the dithers/notjustdithers when I can.

For now, I'll leave all that stuff alone and simply give you the plugins. These are AU, Mac and PC VST. The dithers come in two forms: NotJustAnotherDither which is 24 bit, and NotJustAnotherCD, which is 16 bit.
