Nick Robinson wrote:I'm using the redtron 400 rather than the SE, because I don't like the "cut off note" feature. However, I can't work out how to change patches using a midi controller. I can add the slider using the "configure" option, but it doesn't respond to midi. Artifake seem to have no contact details.

Any help appreciated
A bit late but... if you want you can try the emulation I have done in Synthedit. It uses exactly the same samples as RedTron (I have got the authorization from Taijiguy to use his samples).

It is almost finished, except some small improvements to do in the effects and a rework to do to the GUI.

Here it is:

Currently the GUI is this one:

About the improvements, I'm open to any constructive suggestion...

Of course, beware the volume of your speakers...

Looks good, BlackWinny. :)

Like the lettering, perfect size and reasonably good contrast :tu: .

Sure will try it!

(good to have you back :))

The Artifake stuff made me so happy cos I'm a big genesis fan but also a big trance fan. When I found the VST's, decision was made to do a 70's Trance fusion album. lol

I swear it's the best choirs and the flute sounds so organic, that's why I love genesis so much. Ok, some say I'm crazy, some say I've nuts to send the shy mellotron choir throuh trancegate, but things must be done! :D

Here is Artifake VST in use (choir is 35 Tapes Symphony Preset) and flutelead. With chorus and exciter the 35 Tapes preset sounds so rich...

Splendid Track, Cruba! I've left a short feedback at the end of the track. It shows how much the Mellotron remains valuable to make excellent modern songs.

Hi Blackwinny,
thanks, just converted to a SFZ lib for zampler. ;)

And now playing the mellotron riff from "I'm like a bird", preset: string section ... ( )

Would like to get more infos about the velocity and aftertouch response which is written about in this article:
http://www.keyboards.de/equipment/das-m ... mellotron/

For first I'm linking velocity to the attack time and aftertouch to small pitch change.

The M400 had a soft felt under the keys, so pressing them firmly will press the tape more to the heads. This results in a very small change in the sound (like a little increase in the highs). Also when playing the keys very slowly, the tape was pressed slowly to the heads, giving a kind of attack time (not only in volume but like a filter opening).
Playing the keys fast might give a little random "click" at the start, but this should not be there if the instrument is adjusted correct.
Pressing much keys hard might reduce the speed (pitch) a little bit, but the motor should compensate this quick if the instrument is OK (this was a problem at the first instruments with unregulated motors).
Unserviced Mellotrons might also have wow and flutter problems.
And then there is the analog signal path with serial tape heads and tube preamp that will result in some compression and little distortion depending on the number of notes played.
