"What the hell is this?" -- lol. That was pretty much my first reaction. I first heard a cover band called Pegasus perform it at Shaker Park in Enfield Connecticut around 1981.wagtunes wrote:That's really cool. There has been nothing like it since. The whole album, for that matter, is a classic. Supper's Ready is a work of art.
But don't get me started or I won't be able to stop.
Is GForce M-Tron Pro still the best "Tron" vst?

Ok, and then there are the presets in Historical Giants volume 2 for Synthmaster. Nori Ubukata did both the Electra2 and Synthmaster presets for those.wagtunes wrote:The problem with Electra 2, which I own, is that when you load a sample into a patch, the engine of Electra 2 colors the original sound. Synthmaster, same problem. I've done my own sound sets with imported samples and the engine, again, colors the samples. You literally need something that is a straight sample player and the samples have to be straight off a dry Mellotron in order to accurately tell.Examigan wrote:Ok, and then there are the presets in Historical Giants volume 2 for Synthmaster. Thanks.Examigan wrote:Here's an old thread about Mellotron sounds that might be helpful

Here's the TLDR for those who didn't read it through.
The general consensus seems to be either MTron Pro or Pinder, but Pinder is in Akai format.
Tronholic made the best post however. The differences between each Mellotron, as far as condition of the instrument, is going to greatly affect the sound. So comparisons between libraries is difficult if not impossible.
As for the samples posted in the thread, as the thread is now 9 years old, you'd expect these links to be dead, and they are.
Ultimately, listen to each library (if possible) and get whatever you either think is most authentic or like the best.
That's what I'm going to do.

These guys do an excellent job of making samples.
Something more recently released, (not 18+ years ago) affordable and regularly updated (the UVI player).

Thanks, I already mentioned Mello earlier. It was free for about 2 weeks in 2014, I happened to get it at that point.Firebird wrote:These guys do an excellent job of making samples.

Wagtunes mentioned the links weren't working on that other thread I posted, so I found a link that does work for those Tajiguy samples.

I can't quite make out the currency symbol on the GForce sales page. Is that pounds?
If it is, I calculate the M Tron Pro and the 3 Streetly Tapes expansions to total to about $330 US currency.
Is that about right? Anybody in the US actually bought these that can confirm this?

FWIW, I've read that there's a guy named Roger King who plays keyboards in a band that often also plays old Genesis songs, including Watcher of the Skies, and he's been using M-Tron (Pro) for years.
GForce is a U.K. company so yes, the funny looking "L" that you're seeing stands for GBP.

So are my calculations right? If they are, $330 is a good chunk of change for all those sounds but I guess worth it considering what had to be done to get them in the first place. I always wanted to own a Mellotron but could never afford one.Sequent wrote:FWIW, I've read that there's a guy named Roger King who plays keyboards in a band that often also plays old Genesis songs, including Watcher of the Skies, and he's been using M-Tron (Pro) for years.

For me personally. I wouldn't spend all that money when UVI Mello sounds pretty good, and there are others out there, such as the Synthmaster and Electra2 options. In a mix with other instruments playing, I doubt if you would be able to pick out which one is which anyway.wagtunes wrote:So are my calculations right?
