I considered that, but the disabling of comments and the brief track description gave me the impression that it was not something you wished to discuss.

sfiks wrote: I replaced non Synth1 parts with Synth1 quite successfully and honestly think it sounds better. It's all about music isn't it?
Oh I agree. And after listening to the original I think it is quite improved.
And personally I have zero issue with someone doing that. I think that someday I might want to do something similar. Revisit an old idea with improved skills and a better synth and see if it does better in OSC ratings.
To me you created something specifically for this contest OSC94 because the original song in that form just using Synth1 did not exist previously.
But from earlier conversations it seems some folks do not agree with my assessment.

Voted. Good stuff all around, nothing below a 3, no sounds that made me cringe. One had strong panning to one side but I still really liked it.
I had some sounds at the beginning of my track that were supposed to sound like children sledding, but I wonder if people just heard some obnoxious noises. Anyone kind enough to let me know if it came across the way I hoped? I was pretty proud of it at the time, sigh.

I think we could do a hole year just with Synth1 and it would not get boring. The variety is so huge!

The very first sound was about 95% of a sound I spent a significant time trying to make and only managed about 50% before I gave up.
So my vexation at hearing that sound was the only obnoxious experience I had with your entire song. :hail:
I do think you managed to capture the feeling of children having fun quite well.

Voted.
I must say this was an amazing month in having such a variety of songs that I enjoyed listening to. Had this been a weaker month there were probably many 3's that I might have bumped to 4's and a few 4's that could have easily been 5's had the other 5's not been so strong of tracks.
Nothing below a 3 to my ears either.

I want to thank those who left comments on my track. Especially those who also offered critical advice with ideas on how to improve. I know it can be difficult to be critical but I do appreciate it because I feel it helps me hopefully improve.

VOTED! :phew:
With so many 4s, I almost feel like I didn't do too much to contribute to the outcome, hehe... great, great stuff! :tu:

opoint, I deleted your comment from my song and all mine from yours. I also have you be the first non-spambot I ever blocked on SC. I give you a quick thing to think about here, if you can take some deep breaths before you fly off the handle like that again and lose your mind in public once more:
- I liked your song and great many things as well as great many moments in it.
- I noticed a few very sour points though, where your music derails more than it would, if you had just a bit of a stronger handle on music theory and/or more experience with it, because you obviously "know" enough and you have a great intuition.
- I found that a pity, because it did harm your song. I'm saying this, because people may not give you as high a rating as you could easily get to and then very much deserve!

Figured something would be here. You could have privately messaged me this. If I insulted you with my criticism than I apologize, but you have certainly insulted me by replying that I am "crazy" or "stupid" or "losing my mind"? I always try to be very constructive and courteous with my comments to people. What you need to realize is that I essentially gave you a similar comment to yours, albeit much more blunt. A comment from you is like, "Really cute section here, if only it didn't sound like total shit and you had some talent". It doesn't feel genuine or really constructive at all. My comment, though blunt, was honestly how I felt about you track aswell. So, well, you can send me private messages in this forum so there is no need for this public soap opera drama.

I tried to save your face a little by deleting the immature outburst of yours. Look, you must still be young and very impulsive as all passionate artists are. Some contain it better than others, but I was not unlike you, even until I reached my 30s.
I wrote all this down for you here again, so you could read it again, too. Where in your book does "great musical intuition" read as "no talent"?
And the biggest trouble is that it is so easy for you to know how much talent you have- and you sure know it- but you still are uncertain at the same time. You should be, too, because there is so much more to learn, so much more growth ahead. That goes for all of us, but some of us simply are further along. Many of us started off with likely even less creative powers than you already display. But no matter how creative you are, you must learn to trust that someone with more experience does not want to push you down, but tells you something for a freaking reason; FOR YOUR SAKE! Something you may think about rather than get all vengeful and childish like you did.
There are many wars in this world right now, but there's non between you and me or any of us here.

My advice to you is something that helped me a great deal through times when my impulses made me react too quickly and unwisely:
- if you feel rage, then pause yourself. Stop! Do not react. Take a few really deep breaths, maybe even make yourself a coffee or get something you enjoy for a few minutes at least.
- then think about who caused your rage first and try to imagine what advantage this person might want to gain for causing you this pain. Most likely that was not intended, but something else must have then been intended.
- investigate, if you might recognize what was meant. If you can't find it, just go and ask! If that person still talks you down, then you may unleash the beast, if you can't help it, but before then... you just lose those, who care enough about you to tell you honestly what they were thinking.

As for soap operas, they make billions in revenue all over the world for distracting people with ridiculous simplifications of human weaknesses only to make those, who watch them weaker.
What we do here is meant to make us stronger! It's quite literally the opposite of a soap...hmm... dirt?

We've had far worth and less useful discussions here in public that really would've best never existed. I don't think this is that bad. ;)

It sounds like a case of escalation. Perhaps someone used a harsh word? @Taron, part of the problem is language. I know it can be insanely hard if you're not a native English speaker. Sometimes a word you might think is fine, could come across as insulting to someone with native English. Hopefully you guys can de-escalate.

@Opoint, I didn't read the soundcloud comments, but I don't think Taron meant to be as negative as you think, hopefully we can work it out.

"There are many wars in this world right now, but there's non between you and me or any of us here. " I like that Taron.

Great tracks BTW.

 Thanks, BJ! ;)
Thankfully I lived in the States for over a decade, teaching me about sensitive phrases like "are you insane", which really are considered very harmless in Germany, for example, haha!

The trouble is really like I said above: Artists develop their craft like a walk on a tightrope, because their sense of security has to grow along with it as well as the understanding what they should become confident about and which part will always have to stay pliable. If we were 100% sure we know it all and there's nothing left to learn, then that is exactly what happens. But to know that we are on the right path will get to the 99.999% mark eventually. So these two aspects of confidence tend to create an imbalance, which makes artists so damn sensitive. One push in the wrong moment and it's red alert. Once the alarm goes off, the real information gets drowned by all the noise inside. Believe me, I know how this feels.
What I wrote up there were my comments, partially verbatim, but the content was identical. Because it was such a strong track, I did not expect opoint to misunderstand it the way he did. But I really, really hope he gradually does, if he doesn't already.
I'm afraid, it may take some time for the whole sense of rage to vanish. I'll likely be a sour sight to him for accumulated reasons, but I hope it will go away and we'll all see eye to eye again.

Life is good. Today, I cleaned out a ton of crap from my dresser drawer that I know I'll never need and was no point hanging onto.

I've made a lot of (for me) drastic changes for 2017. For starters, haven't even been close to an argument yet. Not just here but every forum I attend. Some people are wondering if I'm ill. lol.

I can't even begin to tell you how much better I feel.

As far as this OSC goes, I'm probably going to skip it and wait to see what comes out next month.

Taron, on a personal note, there aren't many tracks I actually look forward to listening to each month if for no other reason than lack of time, but yours are one of them. You always come up with something different and interesting. It is so far from the same old same old and yet is also so well done that you actually do well in the contests. I truly admire you as an artist.

Anyway, I'm currently listening to some Chris Hein Solo Strings demos so I'm gonna go back into my cave and continue with that.

Good luck to all the participants this month. Synth sounds like a challenging one.
