I actually thought the interface was very interesting and forward-thinking. Way better for mobile than a GarageBand or SunVox. The only thing wrong with this is the video title.

Since the developers of the app have greatly restricted the musical decisions and possibilities, is the music you can create with it interesting? Would you want to listen to an hour of this stuff? I wouldn't.nineofkings wrote:I actually thought the interface was very interesting and forward-thinking. Way better for mobile than a GarageBand or SunVox. Did you get your definition of "literally" from the same dictionary as you took your definition of snobbery?bungle wrote:Yes itel-bo (formerly ebow) wrote:Nothing to do with snobberybungle wrote:A lot of snobbery in this thread !!

Either way, you're wrong.
You made an incorrect assumption based on one sentence, and rather than asking me to explain what I meant, you just doubled-down on your bullshit accusation

Well, you still need to be able to play melodies in real time to be able to make something like that. Just because guy in this video can, doesn't mean everybody can too. This must be a pain for a newbie to make something listenable out of this app if you can't see or compare different patterns.
And yes, deep house tends to be simple and composed out of repeatable loops.
Overall, the ap looks much better and more powerful than I expected.

Is it just me, or were the loops getting out of sync at a couple of points in the video?
I have mixed feelings about this app. They've managed to distill the essence of something like Ableton Live into an extremely minimal interface which is actually capable of creating whole songs on a phone. That is pretty impressive.
On the other hand, they've managed to encapsulate the formula for an extremely formulaic genre into a neat and tidy package which requires no artistic skill and offers no risk of artistic failure. This is the McDonald's style of making music.

No. But not every app needs to do everything. As a sketch pad, this is pretty good. As a way of using phone real estate to create an efficient interface, this is great. Much better than even the more serious mobile music tools.Frantz wrote:Since the developers of the app have greatly restricted the musical decisions and possibilities, is the music you can create with it interesting? Not saying the next leading light in dance music will exclusively use this app. But as a example of an app specifically for a phone, rather than an infuriatingly tiny iteration of a desktop paradigm, this works. And already more full-featured than some of Propellerhead's mobile offerings, for example.

What the heck, I've never been crucified here so I'll have a go at it. I hate this app and every one of it's kind. It's taken my whole life to develop some pretty average mixing, arranging and guitar playing skills. So when I see someone press a button and think they are doing something more than press a button it annoys the hell out of me. On the other hand, if you are so desperate to feel good about yourself that you'll believe you are doing something truly creative then good luck to you. The whole music industry if full of generic garbage anyway so what difference does it really make. There, it's done, now nail me up and wait till I die.
