In praise of Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1 (forget about Audigy!)

Almost a year ago, I was shopping for a new soundcard. I wanted a soundcard that is not only good for games/multimedia, fairly cheap, but also excellent for professional quality audio recording. I did tons of research, and I found the Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1. It was the only consumer card that has GSIF driver support, along with ASIO 2, WDM, and all the other good stuff.

Now, almost a year later, it has not let me down once. The latency is absolutely excellent in both Sonar 3 and Cubase SX using ASIO 2, and it works fine with Gigastudio as well (I'm a keyboard player and I'm really picky about latency). It also sounds excellent for both music production and games/multimedia.

I'm so glad I did not get the Audigy as I have heard so many complaints about it.

So, if you are in my shoes a year ago, get the Prodigy 7.1. You won't regret it.

Audiotrak and ESI (same company, but one is the consumer division and the other the professional)have some fine budget-cards. Underestimated company IMHO.
