Hey, I want to produce a song of mine with a piano. I am a totally newbee in digital composition. I got an m-audio ketstation 49,a midi controller from a local shop. Now there are so many terms I do not understand quite well I think. MIDI in, MIDI out, VST, DAW, Sequencer, Sampler, Synthesizers.......

After a bit of search I came out this conclusion that my midi keyboard controller is just like a game controller. That it can not produce the sound on its own. The synthesizer is what produce the sound. It can not hardware or software. Anyway, I need to grab some software and configure it. So that I plug my keyboard and follow along the theory classes. :)

But I do not know where to start on this! :( :( Please help me out

To produce your song, first of all, grab a DAW (digital audio workstation). It is your main software for producing music. There are a lot of DAWs with different kinds of workflows, cubase, FL studio, ableton live, studio one, sonar, etc. If you're on Mac, you might already have Garageband. Watch some youtube videos and download the demos to determine which one fits your workflow best.

a DAW, even the entry level ones, usually have their own virtual instruments that you could control with your keystation.

For starters, try to make some sounds using only the instruments and sounds included in your DAW. If you're not satisfied with them, try to grab some freebies and play around with them to get a hang of playing with MIDI controller. I suggest to not buy commercial products (except the DAW maybe, but there are some free DAWs available) until you actually know what you're doing.

Thank you very much. So lets say I grab FL studio, so then my quest would be like this "how to configure FL studio with m-audio keystation49 for piano instrument"?

You already have Ableton Live Lite (which comes with many instruments) and also some Sonivox and Air software instruments, they come bundled with your Keystation.

Check out their manuals, should get you started!
