I have 5 PCs in my house; all with different CPUs, memory, graphic cards, etc and I have absolutely zero problems on any of them...and they all have automatic updates on. So I would tend to agree something in the PC is amiss as opposed the OS. However, sometimes updates do not go in the right order and some fail. You need to follow up and check if there is a failure and then follow the instructions to repair it. This happened to me a lot in 8.1 but since 10, nothing like that.dnekm wrote:That is an absurd statement.....chk071 wrote:You may encounter many more problems if you don't update. If your computer has issues with new Windows updates, then the computer is the issue, not the updates.
If you have been using PC's for any length of time - with the variety of hardware and software potential nightmares - then you would have experienced something similar....
You have to tame the beast. It belongs to you - not the other way round.....

I've no idea. You seem to blindly defend W10 at every turn - blaming the user each and every time when, clearly, its the OS that's at fault. You seem to have no ability to see things from someone elses point of view.chk071 wrote:Why is it that whenever i visit threads like these, i turn around and leave them with a huge facepalm?

I still didn't get what people mean with all this paranoia. What ads? I am running Windows 10 since the first Preview, had my dose of initial problems, and I am still running the Previews (so, ahead of the majority of people) and things have been smooth since the oficial release, even when ther were major updates. And I never got any ads I'm aware of. And I don't disable automatic updates EVER (not even in Windows 7, which I also use). If you do, you are asking for troubles, and that's where problems start, IMO. Since Windows 7, there's little to do in terms of OS optimization, besides the usual malware protection and maintenance utilities, and eventually turning off automatic online applications like Skype and all that, but that's easy to do.metamorphosis wrote:Revert to Windows 7Touch The Universe wrote:What should I do to maximize privacy, remove ALL ads, and stop any updates? Regarding "privacy", unless you live in a remote island, without telefone, television, etc, you can no longer be safely private. As soon as you pick your mobile phone, you are exposed. The same every time you use the Net. It's up to you to minimize what you expose. But having a Windows account and logging in with it makes the use of Windows 10 much smoother. However, nothing forces you to make that account your MAIN account. I have that account basically for Windows use, and nothing else. All the rest is done with OTHER e-mail accounts. Is it so difficult to do this?

Well put.Touch The Universe wrote:Why would a free or even 200 dollar software OS dictate the stability of thousands of dollars of hardware gear. It's ludicrous not to have a choice.
Unfortunately, this is not the perspective of the average user because they have cheap (generic) hardware, or simply use their devices to surf the web, watch videos, play games, chat, etc. Most people do not produce anything on the pc, so they really don't care if it breaks - they'll just buy a new $300 device, or pester someone who has taken the time to learn, to fix theirs.
Most people do not spend weeks fine tuning a pc with thousands of dollars of hardware and software. They have no real investment (financially or intellectually) and yet will give the most ludicrous advice about using it. This is just ignorance, and there is a relatively small learning curve involved, so even artists and musicians have no excuse not to learn their own machine. Snobbery is a childish excuse.
The asinine assumption by companies like MSFT is that we don't know what we're doing, and they will do it all for us. FU MSFT, and get out of my pc! I'll come and get you if I need you.

Stuff to disable.
I used this link several months ago when I tried a clean install of Win10 (went back to Win7), and I just hand-picked what I wanted. Things have changed a little as well, so be discerning (always). I just finished another clean install to check things out again, and I will re-post if I have anything useful.

A minor scale is a major scale starting 3 half steps down from the major and visa versa. Any Chord has as many versions as it has notes.

I have a new computer to mess with windows 10 again....
Seems since the anniversary update, I was forced to apply a regedit to stop cortana!
Was wondering if there were any new and improved methods since this thread was created for stopping the updates

Just revert to Win7. Then you don't need to worry.fmr wrote:I still didn't get what people mean with all this paranoia. What ads? Windows 10 is fine. I really don't get all the hooplah. It's a great operating system and I never had a problem with it. It's a fine blend of Windows 7 and... well... Windows 10. Just embrace it and you will get along just fine with it.

Don't even get me started on the anniversary version
The hoopla is simply, it updates on it's own, w/o warning and though chances are with some minor adjustments it will work fine, it's f...ing annoying.
That's the hoopla. I never had that issue with win7. I'm firmly and completely on the win10 train for better or worse, but that really gets me that with the anny you have to have that annoying cortana. Worse than poppy

Here's some hoopla: I am on a metered connection here. After I pass the monthly bandwidth my ISP charges me £2.70 per GB traffic. Windows 10 could cost me a lot.

What ISP are you with, is it an old contract? - Not seen that sort of thing in years ...DarkStar wrote:Here's some hoopla: I am on a metered connection here. After I pass the monthly bandwidth my ISP charges me £2.70 per GB traffic. Windows 10 could cost me a lot.
